National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice (NRC/FCP)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice (NRC/FCP) works to promote culturally responsive family centered services through research and evaluation, training and technical assistance, and information dissemination. The Research and Evaluation Division works with state and local agencies to design evaluations, identify outcome measures, and conduct evaluations of family centered programs. Training is developed in partnership with agency staff and is based on assessment of the agency's needs and desired outcomes. The center provides technical assistance in the areas of program/policy development, community involvement and collaboration, cultural competence, and evaluation. Publications include an annual serial, Prevention Report which describes new practice approaches and research findings and reviews new books and materials.

National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (NRC)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (NRC) at the University of Colorado Denver promotes health and safety in out-of-home child care settings throughout the nation. NRC collaborates with the American Public Health Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau to produce national health and safety performance standards guidelines for out-of-home child care programs. The center's website provides resources for child care providers, parents, health consultants, regulators, and early childhood systems leaders including a database of state licensure regulations.

National Resource Center for Permanency and Family Connections, Fostering Connections

Annotation: Fostering Connections provides information on the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008, Children's Bureau policy and guidance, and related resources and websites. Topics include adoption, education, health care, psychotropic and prescription medications, kinship/guardianship, emancipating/older youth, family connections grantees, tribal issues, siblings, and training. Fostering Connections is a component of the National Resource Center for Permanency and Family Connections.

National School Safety Center (NSSC)

Annotation: The National School Safety Center (NSSC) serves as an advocate for safe, secure and peaceful schools worldwide and as a catalyst for the prevention of school crime and violence. Emphasis is placed on the prevention of school crime and violence, and on programs to improve student attendance, achievement, and school climate. The center provides consultation and technical assistance, offers a school safety assessment program, sponsors conferences, workshops, and training seminars, and produces videotapes and publications (including news updates and resource papers).

National Training Initiative for Injury and Violence Prevention

Annotation: The National Training Initiative for Injury and Violence Prevention aims to reduce mortality and morbidity from injury in the United States through enhancement of the training infrastructure for state, local and tribal health departments and their diverse partners. It targets about 8,000 professionals per year working in injury and violence prevention, including professionals in public health, emergency services, health care, law enforcement, transportation, education and other fields, as well as community members. The National Association of Injury Control Research Centers and the State and Territorial Injury Prevention Directors Association collaborated to form the initiative, which was initially funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control and is now housed at the University of North Carolina. The Web site offers Injury and Violence Prevention Core Competencies along with a training resources questionnaire to collect information on all the resources that can assist injury and violence prevention practitioners. Future plans include developing a training resources guide, a toolkit, and an injury and violence prevention curriculum.

Public Health Infrastructure Resource Center

Annotation: The Public Health Infrastructure Resource Center (PHIRC) was created by the Public Health Foundation (PHF) to help meet the needs and interests of states, communities, and the public in assessing and building their infrastructures. This Web-based center, which serves as a gateway to information and resources to build capacity of public health systems, provides summaries and links to publications, Web sites, organizations, projects, and learning tools on general public health infrastructure. The site is organized according to the three core areas of public health infrastructure outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Public Health Workforce; Organizational & Systems Capacity; and Information, Data, and Communications Systems. Funding for the PHIRC has been provided by the CDC and PHF.

University Centers of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD)

Annotation: The University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD) are a network of interdisciplinary, university-based centers that work to advance policy and practice for and with individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families, and communities. Sixty eight centers located in every state and territory facilitate the flow of disability-related information between communities and universities. The centers work with individuals with disabilities, members of their families, state and local government agencies, and community providers in projects that provide training, technical assistance, service, research, and information sharing, with a focus on building the capacity of communities to sustain all their citizens.

University of Iowa Health Care, Center for Disabilities and Development

Annotation: The Center for Disabilities and Development is a resource for people with disabilities or special needs. The center was originally created in 1947 and is designated as Iowa's University Center for Excellence on Disabilities. It serves as a resource for medical care and related services, training, research, and information sharing. In addition to serving people from Iowa, the center also serves as a resource for people from neighboring states and beyond.
