Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy (PRI)

Annotation: The Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy (PRI) is a California based and oriented think-tank, which centers its policy goals on concepts of individual freedom and responsibility. Specific areas of interest are Health Care, Civil Rights, Urban Studies, Privatization, Welfare, Technology Policy, the Environment, and the Law. Services to consumers include publications and reference information. PRI sponsors conferences and and workshops and also publishes briefings, studies, a newsletter and a catalog.

RCHN Community Health Foundation

Annotation: Formed in 2005, the RCHN Community Health Foundation (RCHN CHF) is a not-for-profit operating foundation whose mission is to support and benefit the work of community health centers (CHCs) nationally. The Foundation's work focuses on three areas of critical importance to Federally Qualified Health Centers and medically underserved communities: access, affordable prescription drugs, and health information technology.

South Carolina Rural Health Research Center (SCRHRC)

Annotation: The South Carolina Rural Health Research Center focuses on investigating persistent inequities in health status within the population of the rural US, with an emphasis on inequities stemming from socioeconomic status, race and ethnicity, and access to healthcare services. Research findings are provided to organizations and individuals working to improve the quality of life for rural residents and ongoing cooperative research partnerships with other key organizations - government, academia, health services delivery and the rural community who can join the quest to improve the health of rural Americans.

Southwest Institute for Families and Children with Special Needs

Annotation: The Southwest Institute for Families and Children with Special Needs focuses on services for children and adolescents with special health care needs in making the transition to adult life in Arizona. Research is conducted to produce scientifically and socially valid results; contribute to knowledge about families, children, and youth with special needs; focus on topics that reflect changing demographics, life spans, barriers, and needs; use research designs that include potential consumers (parents, children and youth, teachers, physicians) in every step of the research process; produce research products that promote the transfer of knowledge to families and service providers; use multiple methods of research to ensure that results reflect the most current knowledge in the area, as well as the beliefs, expectations and daily lives of its potential consumers. Demonstration and implementation of research translates state-of-the-art knowledge into practice in conducting demonstration and implementation projects based on evidence supported practices; developing products for practitioners and parents that synthesize research-findings; promote collaboration between families and health, education, and social service providers through demonstration and implementation projects; and promote system-wide change as an outcome of family-provider collaboration in project activities. Additional focus is on program evaluation for projects-in-process and preparing personnel including inservice providers in the research-to-practice process.

Tri-Town Community Action Agency Head Start Program

Annotation: Tri-Town Community Action Agency a private non-profit corporation providing a variety of social services to the disadvantaged of northwestern Rhode Island since its establishment during the Johnson Administration’s “War on Poverty” in 1964. The majority of programs operated by Tri-Town Community Action Agency serve the residents in the Towns of Johnston, North Providence, Smithfield, North Smithfield, Burrillville ,Glocester, Scituate and Foster; however, the agency does provide limited services in every city and town throughout the state of Rhode Island. Services include breastfeeding peer counseling, Head Start program, health center, parent aide program, school-aged child care, Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, toy distribution, and Women, Infants and Children Nutritional Program (WIC) services.

Urgent Matters

Annotation: Urgent Matters is an initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help hospitals eliminate emergency department (ED) crowding and help communities understand the challenges facing the health care safety net. The program's goals are: (1) to improve the ability of safety net profiders to respond to increasing emergency department volumes; (2) to assess and highlight the state of local safety nets in select communities; and (3) to publicize the program's findings to local and national audiences. Publications and an electronic newsletter are available.
