Annotation: The Families and Work Institute is a nonprofit organization that explores ways to balance continuing workplace productivity demands and the changing needs of families. The institute conducts research on issues related to the changing demographics of the workforce; child and elder care demands, services, and impacts on work; as well as workplace research that helps employers respond to identified needs. It provides information dissemination, strategic planning, technical assistance, and management training services for decision makers in business, communities, and government. Annotation: Family Voices of Wisconsin promotes a system of comprehensive health and community supports based on fundamental principles that assure the health and well being of children and youth with special health care needs and/or disabilities and their families. The role of Family Voices of Wisconsin is to advocate for the inclusion of these principles in the design, implementation and delivery of supports and services throughout Wisconsin. Activities include supporting an active network of parents/families through our listserv, newsletter and website (www.FVofWI.org); developing information to help families stay informed about public policy issues and connect families and youth to leadership and advocacy opportunities; hosting listening sessions to hear from families about their experiences with health care and support services and share this important information with policy makers to work toward improving their systems of care; providing training to families on navigating health and community supports; promoting a "family voice" in public policy, systems change and professional education; and nurturing strong family and provider partnerships in decision making, which can improve the quality of care and services children receive.

Annotation: The Center for Children and Families (CCF) develops and disseminates research, strategies, and ideas to improve the health of America's low and moderate income children and families. In particular, the center examines policies and implementation issues related to Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), employer-based coverage, and public-private coverage initiatives. Annotation: The Health Initiative of the Americas, formerly known as the California-Mexico Health Initiative, was created in January 2001 under the auspices of the California Policy Research Center of the University of California, Office of the President. It is a collaborative effort involving government, academia, the private sector and community-based organizations of both countries. The Initiative's objective is to coordinate and optimize the availability of health resources for Mexican immigrants and their families through bilateral training, research, and health promotion activities. It facilitates the development of complementary and coordinated projects involving key stakeholders in Mexico and the United States. The Initiative's first efforts have focused on Mexican states with the highest international mobility and California counties with high proportions of immigrant populations. HIA activities involve three main areas: (1) development and implementation of bilateral agreements and cooperative projects to achieve the best use of existing resources and to establish new initiatives; (2) health promotion and education projects, including binational health campaigns, publications, and dissemination of culturally sensitive health-related materials; and (3) training of health professionals, including doctors, nurses, medical students, clinic administrators, and outreach workers, focusing on the specific health needs of the Mexican origin population.

Annotation: The Hood Center for Children and Families was established at Dartmouth in 1990 with support from the Charles H. Hood Foundation. The Hood Center is dedicated to improving the well-being of children, adolescents, and families through health promotion research and family-centered support. Annotation: The Human Development Center (HDC) was established in 1974 to focus on issues related to people with disabilities and their families across the life span. Annotation: The National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC) promotes awareness of the needs of children and adolescents grieving a death and provides a network for nationwide communication between professionals and volunteers who want to share ideas, information and resources with each other to better support the children and families they serve in their own communities.
