National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

Annotation: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) publishes brochures and conducts public education programs that promote child passenger safety. It operates a toll-free telephone service that handles consumer complaints on child safety seats and other automotive safety technologies and provides information on product recalls. NHTSA produces a traffic safety materials catalog. Some publications are available in Spanish. National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (NRC)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (NRC) at the University of Colorado Denver promotes health and safety in out-of-home child care settings throughout the nation. NRC collaborates with the American Public Health Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau to produce national health and safety performance standards guidelines for out-of-home child care programs. Parents Anonymous (PA)

Annotation: Founded in 1970, Parents Anonymous, Inc. is a child abuse and neglect prevention, education, and treatment program. The organization's mission is to promote mutual support and parent leadership in order to build and support strong, healthy families. Today, Parent's Anonymous leads an extensive national network of neighborhood-based support groups for parents and their children. Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBC)

Annotation: The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC)'s mission is to improve the quality of life in communities through the increase of safe walking and bicycling as a viable means of transportation and physical activity. Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA)

Annotation: Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA), formerly the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, seeks to increase public awareness of the incidence, origins, nature, and effects of child abuse. The organization serves as a national advocate to prevent the neglect and physical, sexual, and emotional abuse of children. Prevent Child Injury

Annotation: Prevent Child Injury is a national group of organizations and individuals, including researchers, health professionals, educators, and child advocates, working together to prevent injuries to children and adolescents in the United States. In collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Prevent Child Injury promotes coordinated public communication about child injury. Individual and organization members receive free, customizable child injury prevention materials for outreach including fact sheets, videos, press releases, sample social media posts, and media talking points; tips and strategies for reaching the media and the public with injury prevention messages; access to a roster of injury prevention experts available to speak to the media and other groups; and connection to partner organizations and individuals dedicated to child injury prevention.

Safe Kids Upstate

Annotation: Safe Kids Upstate is one of more than 630 coalitions affiliated with Safe Kids Worldwide®, an organization whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children 14 and under. There are 15 Safe Kids coalitions in South Carolina. Safe Kids Upstate Coalition, led by the Children's Hospital of Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center under the department of Children’s Advocacy, consists of almost 100 community partners who join together to fight unintentional injuries.

Safe Kids Worldwide (SKWW)

Annotation: Safe Kids Worldwide (SKWW) is a global effort to focus solely on unintentional childhood injury prevention. Each year, more than one million children ages 14 and under die from unintentional injuries such as fires, drownings, and traffic crashes, and many more are permanently disabled. Safe Kids Worldwide was created to meet this challenge by establishing a global network of organizations committed to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury. Services to consumers include inquiry responses, publications (some materials are available in Spanish), and reference Information. Safe Kids Worldwide publishes a catalog and newsletter, and sponsors conferences.

Saskatchewan Prevention Institute (SIPH)

Annotation: The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute, formerly the Saskatchewan Institute on Prevention of Handicaps, is a nonprofit organization that raises province-wide awareness of prevention measures to reduce the incidence of handicapping conditions in children. Programs focus on four areas that impact the health and well-being of children: Reproductive and Infant Health; Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs; Childhood Injuries; and Neglect and Abuse. Activities focus on raising awareness of prevention measures through: educational opportunities such as workshop presentations, conferences and public awareness campaigns; providing assistance for community groups to develop their own prevention education programs; networking and partnering projects that further prevention efforts; and maintaining links with community, non-profit and government organizations to ensure a coordinated approach to prevention programming. Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

Annotation: Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), previously known as Students Against Driving Drunk, is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1981. Its members include students in middle and high schools, college students, and concerned adults. Sudden Infant Death Services (SIDS) of Illinois

Annotation: Sudden Infant Death Services of Illinois (SIDS of Illinois) is dedicated to the prevention and eventual elimination of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other causes of infant death through through educational initiatives stressing proven risk reduction strategies. Activities include reducing infant mortality by decreasing the incidence of infant deaths due to SIDS, accidental suffocation, overlay, entrapment, metabolic disorders, and other accidental causes; improving the quantity and quality of comprehensive, family-centered bereavement services for those impacted by a sudden pediatric death; and training professionals throughout Illinois who are likely to encounter cases of sudden pediatric death to better assist newly grieving families. Information on services and materials are available from the Web site for parents, children, friends, grandparents, as well as professionals.

ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation (ThinkFirst)

Annotation: ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation works to prevent brain, spinal cord, and other traumatic injuries through education, research, and advocacy. U.S. Children's Bureau (CB - ACF)

Annotation: Tthe Children's Bureau (CB) is located within the United States Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACF). It is responsible for assisting states in the delivery of child welfare services - services designed to protect children and strengthen families. The agency provides grants to states, tribes and communities to operate a range of child welfare services including child protective services (child abuse and neglect) family preservation and support, foster care, adoption, and independent living. In addition, the agency makes major investments in staff training, technology and innovative programs. A variety of fact sheets, reports, and resource lists can be downloaded from the Web site. The bureau also publishes an electronic newsletter called the Children's Bureau Express.

U.S. Office on Child Abuse and Neglect

Annotation: The U.S. Office of Child Abuse and Neglect, formerly the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, provides leadership and direction on the issues of child maltreatment and the prevention of abuse and neglect under the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA). It is the focal point for interagency collaborative efforts, national conferences and special initiatives related to child abuse and neglect, and for coordinating activities related to the prevention of abuse and neglect and the protection of children at-risk. It supports activities to build networks of community-based, prevention-focused family resource and support programs and improve systems which handle child abuse and neglect cases. University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing, California Childcare Health Program (CCHP)

Annotation: The California Child Care Health Program (CCHP) is a nonprofit organization of the University of California San Francisco School of Nursing, Department of Family Health Care Nursing.
