9to5, National Association of Working Women (9to5)

Annotation: 9 to 5 is a nationwide membership association of women office workers established in 1973 that promotes fair pay, career advancement, safer office automation, parental leaves and pensions, job dignity, and other issues of importance to working women. The association currently has 25 chapters and sponsors a summer conference, workshops, and seminars. 9 to 5 operates a toll-free Job Problems Hotline, (800) 522-0925, and publishes a newsletter, 9 to 5 Newsline, five times a year.

American Nurses Association (ANA)

Annotation: The American Nurses Association (ANA) represents the nation's 2.9 million registered nurses through its 54 constituent associations. It fosters high standards of nursing practice, promotes the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace through a comprehensive workplace advocacy program, projects a positive and realistic view of nursing, and lobbies Congress and regulatory agencies on issues affecting nurses and the public. The association promotes women's health research issues and investigates such issues as domestic violence, maternal and child health, immunization, reproductive health, and women and aging. Services to consumers include referrals, publications, and reference information (reports, policy statements, and resources are available on the Web site). ANA publishes a catalog, newsletter, and journal.

American Youth Work Center (AYWC)

Annotation: The American Youth Work Center supports the work of service providers in settings that serve youth, from adolescent health clinics to youth employment programs. Its newspaper, Youth Today: The Newspaper on Youth Work, is directed to youth policymakers and youth workers. Youth Today provides a broad range of information and resources related to adolescent education, health, and well-being. Services to consumers include publications and reference information.

Brookings Institution, Center on Children and Families

Annotation: The Brookings Institution's Center on Children and Families focuses on the well-being of America's children and their parents, especially those in less advantaged families. The center's research and activities are designed primarily to improve understanding of the reasons for poverty or low income, especially among working families, and the potential of various policies to improve their prospects and the life chances of their children. The center includes a partnership with Princeton University and joint publication of the journal The Future of Children.

Catalyst

Annotation: Catalyst is a national research and advisory organization that helps corporations foster career and leadership development of women. It works to identify and analyze impediments to women's progress in the corporation, work/family balance problems, and other human resource issues. Services include advisory services to corporations establishing diversity programs, corporate board placement service, a speakers' bureau, and an information center with current statistics, print media, and research materials on women in business. Services to consumers include inquriy responses, reference information, and searchable databases. Publications include the monthly Perspective on Current Corporate Issues, career guidance books and pamphlets such as Be Your Own Mentor by Catalyst President Sheila Wellington, and policy planning tools for managing a diverse workforce. The organization awards companies the Catalyst Award for their successful diversity efforts each Spring at a gala dinner.

Center for Collaborative Solutions

Annotation: The Center for Collaborative Solutions (CCS) is a nonprofit organization that facilitates and drives organizational change by helping others to discover innovative and effective ways to achieve shared goals. Services are provided to create high quality, collaborative partnerships, teams, programs, and workplaces. The work of CCS is built around two divisions within the organization: workplace services and afterschool services. Current projects include an afterschool health initiative that includes a California state-wide Nutrition Education Leadership Learning Community and a California statewide labor=management committee to address rapidly increasing health care costs in public education.

Center for Health Workforce Studies (CHWS)

Center for the Child Care Workforce (CCW/AFTEF)

Annotation: The Center for the Child Care Workforce, a project of the American Federation of Teachers Educational Foundation, is a policy, advocacy, and research organization dedicated to enhancing the compensation and working conditions of child care teachers and family child care providers. Their mission is to improve the quality of early care and education for all children. CCW/AFTEF publishes a newsletter and provides referrals, publications, and reference information for consumers

Community Catalyst, Dental Access Project

Annotation: Community Catalyst, Dental Access Project assists community groups and health advocates in improving access to oral health care by expanding the oral health team to include dental therapists. As part of the work of the Dental Access Project, Community Catalyst is partnering with health advocates and state and tribal leaders in five states -- Kansas, Ohio, New Mexico, Washington, and Vermont -- to explore the feasibility of establishing dental therapist programs as a way to expand access to needed oral health care. The project is supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

Annotation: The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) works to ensure and enhance the quality of social work education for a professional practice that promotes individual, family and community well-being, and social and economic justice. CSWE pursues this mission by setting and maintaining national accreditation standards for baccalaureate and master's degree programs in social work, by promoting faculty development, and by advocating for social work education and research. The Council sponsors an annual conference and publishes a member newsletter, peer-reviewed journals, books, a catalog, and other educational and research materials.

Council on Women and Girls

Annotation: The White House's Council on Women and Girls -- established with the signing of an Executive Order by President Barack Obama in March 2009 -- will focus on ensuring that each of the federal agencies is working to directly improve the economic status of women and ensure that administrative policies aim to balance work and family. The Council with also work hand-in-hand with the Vice President, the Justice Department’s Office of Violence Against Women, and other government officials to find new ways to prevent violence against women, at home and abroad. Another top priority of the Council is to help build healthy families and improve women’s health care.

Early Childhood Data Collaborative (ECDC)

Annotation: The Early Childhood Data Collaborative (ECDC) supports state policymakers’ development and use of coordinated state early care and education (ECE) data systems to improve the quality of ECE programs and the workforce, increase access to high-quality ECE programs, and ultimately improve child outcomes. The ECDC provides tools and resources to encourage state policy change and provides a national forum to support the development and use of coordinated state ECE data systems. The ECDC is supported through funding from the Alliance for Early Success, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

Early Childhood Education Linkage System-Healthy Child Care Pennsylvania (ECELS-Healthy Childcare PA)

Annotation: The Early Childhood Education Linkage System-Healthy Child Care Pennsylvania (ECELS-Healthy Child Care PA) provides professional consultation, training, and technical assistance to improve early education and child care in Pennsylvania. Since December 1989, the PA Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has operated the ECELS linking the resources of government, early childhood educators, and health professionals. Now operating Healthy Child Care America Pennsylvania, ECELS offers opportunities for professional development to PA early learning and child care practitioners. Resources include tools, fact sheets, a/v lending library, calendar of events, self-learning modules and workshops, and e-mail alerts.

Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI)

Annotation: The Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) is a nonpartisan public policy research organization that provides educational and research materials on employee benefits, including maternity benefits. EBRI serves employers, employees, retired workers, public officials, the media, and the public as they address health, welfare, and retirement issues. EBRI provides consumers with referrals, publications, and reference information. EBRI also sponsors policy forums and publishes a newsletter and issue briefs.

Families and Work Institute

Annotation: The Families and Work Institute is a nonprofit organization that explores ways to balance continuing workplace productivity demands and the changing needs of families. The institute conducts research on issues related to the changing demographics of the workforce; child and elder care demands, services, and impacts on work; as well as workplace research that helps employers respond to identified needs. It provides information dissemination, strategic planning, technical assistance, and management training services for decision makers in business, communities, and government. It is conducting the I am Your Child Early Childhood Public Engagement Campaign, and also has a Fatherhood Project.

Family Research Council (FRC)

Annotation: The Family Research Council (FRC) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that analyzes issues affecting families and works to ensure that the interests of families are considered and respected in the development of national policy. The organization is dedicated to the promotion of marriage and family and the sanctity of human life. Maintains an online bookstore, publishes legislative action periodicals, hosts radio programs and blogs, and posts national survey data related to marriage and families in America.

Farm Safety 4 Just Kids (FS4JK)

Annotation: Farm Safety 4 Just Kids is a grassroots organization whose mission is to promote a safe farm environmnet to prevent health hazards, injuries, and fatalities to children and youth through community involvement and support services. Activities include: disseminating educational and training materials; conducting educational programs; providing technical assistance; and providing referrals, reference information, and resource materials. The organization publishes a bimonthly newsletter and a catalog. It sponsors workshops, conferences, and training seminars.

Farmworker Health Services, Inc. (FHSI)

Annotation: Funded by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Farmworker Health Services seeks to empower migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families to take ownership of their lives through its provision of health care, its outreach social services, and its promotion of preventive health care. The project places health professionals and allied health personnel at over 30 Migrant and Community Health Centers (M/CHC's) along the east coast during times of peak agricultural activity. It also strives to raise the consciousness of business, health care, social service, educational, and religious entities about the plight of the farm workers and to solicit their support. Offers referrals to consumers and sponsors outreach seminars. Materials are available in Spanish and Creole.

Florida Institute for Health Innovation (FIHI)

HealthConnect One

Annotation: HealthConnect One focuses on collaborative work with grassroots maternal and child health (MCH) and social service providers. Activities include training community health workers (CHWs), including doulas and breastfeeding peer counselors, to improve the health of their own community; assisting organizations in developing programs that use peer support, incorporating trained CHWs into paid positions in outreach, health education, and community health advocacy; and mobilizing diverse stakeholders to build policies and programs that improve MCH in some of the most distressed communities in the country. The website provides information on advocacy; programs and training; news, events and resources; and ways to get involved.
