ABC for Health (ABC for Health)

Annotation: ABC for Health (Advocacy and Benefits Counseling for Health) is a Wisconsin-based nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to ensuring health care access for children and families, particularly those with special needs or who are at risk. ABC for Health's mission is to provide health care consumers with the information, advocacy tools, legal services, and expert support they need to navigate through America's health care financing system.

Disability Rights Wisconsin

Annotation: Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) is a private non profit organization which was founded in 1977. Designated by the Governor to ensure the rights of all state citizens with disabilities through individual advocacy and system change, DRW is part of a national system of federally mandated independent disability agencies. DRW helps people across Wisconsin gain access to services and opportunity through its advocacy and legal expertise. DRW regularly challenge systems and society to create positive change and improve the lives of people with disabilities. The agency also works on disability issues with state and local governments.

Ebling Library

Annotation: The Ebling Library is a newly constructed health sciences learning center that combines three health sciences libraries at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, formerly known as the W.W. Middleton Health Sciences Library, the Weston Library, and the Pharmaceutical Library. The reference staff responds to in-person, phone and e-mail subject queries. Reference assistance includes answering directional and reference questions, providing instruction, technical assistance, and referral. A variety of electronic toolkits and other online resources are available on the Web site.

Foster Care and Adoption Resource Center

Annotation: The Foster Care and Adoption Resource Center (FCARC) provides information and resources for Wisconsin's prospective foster and adoptive families; public, tribal, and private agency foster care, child welfare and adoption staff; and youth currently or previously involved with the foster care system. To assist in providing and locating information, the FCARC provides a toll-free information line, e-mail contact, and comprehensive web-based resources.

Perinatal Foundation

Annotation: The mission of the Perinatal Foundation is to secure and provide resources to improve the health of babies, mothers, and families from preconception to early childhood. The foundation pursues this mission by identifying current and emerging needs across the spectrum of perinatal health concerns, and awarding grants in support of research, education, and model projects to meet those needs; working collaboratively with the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care to promote and implement effective perinatal practices; and building and managing the endowment fund that makes the foundation’s work possible. A major focus of the foundation is perinatal mood disorders. The foundation works within the state of Wisconsin.

Region 4 Midwest Genetics Collaborative

Annotation: The Region 4 Midwest Genetics Collaborative is one of seven groups using a regional approach to improve access to services, quality care, and genetics expertise in a medical home environment that is culturally sensitive. The region 4 collaborative comprises public health agencies, geneticist and other subspecialists, primary care providers, newborn screening and genetic testing laboratories, and families of children with genetic conditions from seven states (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin). The website provides news and resources including information about partners, forums, workgroups, education, and regional meetings. The project is administered by the Michigan Public Health Institute and supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

University of Wisconsin, Center for Tobacco Research & Intervention (UW-CTRI)

Annotation: The University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (UW-CTRI) conducts tobacco research in its offices and in healthcare clinics throughout Wisconsin and beyond. It studies ways to improve understanding of tobacco dependence and to disseminate effective treatments. It has also examined how to improve the effectiveness of community, state, and national policy responses to tobacco addiction. The overall goal of UW-CTRI's collective work is to reduce the physical, emotional, and financial consequences of smoking and to eliminate all tobacco product use.

Wisconsin Child Care Information Center (CCIC)

Annotation: The Wisconsin Child Care Information Center (CCIC) is a mail-order lending library and information center serving anyone in Wisconsin working in the field of child care and early childhood education. CCIC distributes a newsletter and other publications, loans books and videos, prepares customized information packets upon request, contributes to a statewide training calendar, and makes referrals to other agencies.

Wisconsin Clearinghouse For Prevention Resources (WCH)

Annotation: The Wisconsin Clearinghouse For Prevention Resources is an official information and materials resource for the state of Wisconsin that also serves schools, agencies, programs, community groups, and businesses nationwide. Its goal is to strengthen individuals, families, and communities. The Clearinghouse provides a wide range of educational materials and services to prevention specialists, counselors, and other professionals. Topics include alcohol and other drugs, curricula and teacher resources, high-risk youth and high-risk behaviors, resources for programs and professionals, tobacco and smoking, fetal alcohol syndrome, primary prevention and health promotion, mental health, and families and substance abuse prevention. Posters, publications and videotapes are available. Some materials are available in Spanish, plus a few items also available in Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Korean. The organization publishes a quarterly newsletter.

Through local, regional and statewide groups, the Wisconsin Partnership's goal is to significantly advance public health through prevention of disease, injury and disability by targeting research that has the greatest potential to translate quickly to beneficial outcomes for the state's populations.
