Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)

Annotation: Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a nonprofit organization established in 1980 that works to solve the problems of drunk driving and underage drinking through education, prevention, and legislation. MADD also offers emotional support and guidance to drunk driving victims. The organization sponsors awareness and activism programs such as Youth In Action; Protecting You/Protecting Me; Multi-media school assembly shows; the Tie One On For Safety campaign; and the Designate A Driver Program. MADD produces a national magazines DRIVEN and MADDvocate and offers a speakers' bureau.

National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC)

Annotation: The National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) is a nonprofit organization that works to promote the rights and needs of victims of a crime and to educate the public about the devastating effect crime has on society. Training activities and programs developed and executed by the Center include the Stalking Resource Center, which provides training, technical assistance, and information for professionals working with and responding to stalking victims and offenders; the DNA Resource Center, which is a source for training, technical assistance, and information about the use of DNA in the criminal justice system; and a youth initiative, which builds the nation's capacity to support youth victims while working to advance their rights and to ensure youth leadership on issues that affect youth. The center also hosts national conferences and maintains a library of online resource materials.

National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC)

Annotation: The National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC) is a non-profit organization that provides training, prevention, intervention and treatment services to fight child abuse and neglect. NCAC hosts the National Symposium on Child Abuse and the National Conference on Child Abuse Prevention; provides training seminars and online training programs for professionals; conducts research and develops best practice models; offers family-support services, including home visitation programs, and school-based programs for children; and provides intervention programs and therapy services for victims of child abuse. Additional information for children, families, and professionals is posted on the Web site.

National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA)

Annotation: The National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) is a private nonprofit organization of victim and witness assistance programs and practitioners, criminal justice agencies and professionals, mental health professionals, researchers, former victims and survivors, and others committed to the recognition and implementation of victim rights. Activities include advocacy for victim interests in the legislative and executive branches of government, direct services to victims of crime, and technical assistance and training for local victim assistance programs and allied professionals. Services to consumers include referrals and publications. The organization sponsors conferences and training seminars and publishes a newsletter.

National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC)

Annotation: The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) is a comprehensive collection and distribution center for information, research, and emerging policy on sexual violence intervention and prevention. It provides online library and technical assistance and also coordinates National Sexual Assault Awareness Month initiatives. NSVRC is a project of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) , which advocates for services for all sexual assault victims and works to increase public understanding of sexual violence. Through the coalition, the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare funds 52 centers that provide services for adult and child victim/survivors and their families in all Pennsylvania counties. These services include 24-hour hotlines, crisis counseling, education programs for schools and communities, systems advocacy, information and referral, and hospital, police, and court accompaniment. PCAR publishes a catalog and a newsletter and sponsors training seminars and workshops. Some materials are available in Spanish.

Office for Victims of Crime Resource Center (OVCRC)

Annotation: The Office for Victims of Crime Resource Center (OVCRC) is one of several information resources maintained by the National Criminal Justice Reference Service. The center's collection includes more than 13,000 books and articles on victim services, domestic violence, victim-witness programs, and violent crime. The center also collects and disseminates information on child physical and sexual abuse. Services to consumers include referrals, publications (a catalog and newsletter), and reference information. The center also sponsors conferences and training seminars.

Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN)

Annotation: The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims, and ensure that rapists are brought to justice. RAINN sponsors public awareness events and special projects, and provides statistics, counseling resources, prevention tips, public awareness materials, and legislative news updates. The Network operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE.
