American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI)

Annotation: Founded in 1943, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI) sponsors research on government policy, the American economy, and politics. The Institute represents a conservative position in politics and a free-market stance in economics, which are its primary objects of research. It is a nonprofit organization, with an internal press, publishing papers and American Enterprise magazine.

Beacon Hill Institute for Public Policy Research (BHI)

Annotation: The Beacon Hill Institute for Public Policy Research focuses on federal, state, and local economic policies as they affect U.S. voters and businesses and as they impinge, in particular, on the Massachusetts economy. The institute, which is part of Suffolk University in Boston, uses state-of-the-art statistical, mathematical, and econometric methods to provide timely and readable analyses that help voters, policy makers, and opinion leaders understand today's leading public policy issues. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)

Annotation: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a bipartisan public policy institution focused on strategic issues such as trade, finance, politics and America's external geopolitical role. It conducts research into emerging issues and trends. It conducts non-classified analysis for the government and private business. The Center produces a newsletter, journals, and many reports and publications. The Center also sponsors conferences and training seminars.

National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region (NN/LM PNR)

Annotation: The National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region (NNLM PNR), is the Regional Medical Library for Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. NNLM PNR provides referrals, sponsors workshops, and publishes a newsletter. The University of Washington also serves as the Outreach Evaluation Resource Center (OERC) and as the Web Services Technology Operations Center (Web-STOC).

National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region (NN/LM SE/A )

Annotation: The National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region at the Health Sciences and Human Services Library, University of Maryland, Baltimore is the Regional Medical Library for Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The NN/LM SE/A provides training classes and demonstrations on information technology, health information on the world wide web, and the National Library of Medicine's databases. The staff exhibits at a number of state and national meetings and holds training sessions at professional meetings. Consumers may call the office for information referrals. SEA Currents is the SE/A newsletter.

Southern Institute on Children and Families

Annotation: Founded in 1990, the Southern Institute on Children and Families is an independent, non-profit, public policy organization. The Southern Institute endeavors to improve opportunities for children and families in 17 southern states and the District of Columbia with a focus on disadvantaged children. It works to encourage public/private sector collaboration on behalf of children and families and seeks to remove bureaucratic and other barriers that restrict access to needed services. Current initiatives include Covering Kids (child health insurance), the Southern Regional Initiative on Child Care, Supporting Families After Welfare Reform, and Facilitating Access in a Rural Community. The institute provides pubications covering its work and related topics.The southern states included in the work of the Southern Institute on Children and Families are: Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
