ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center (ARCH)

Annotation: ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center assists and promotes the development of quality respite and crisis care programs in the United States. The ARCH National Respite Network includes the National Respite Locator, a service to help caregivers and professionals locate respite services in their community; the National Respite Coalition, a service that advocates for preserving and promoting respite in policy and programs at the national, state, and local levels; and the Respite Technical Assistance Center, which is funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging. ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center is a project of the Chapel Hill Training-Outreach Project.

Center for Mental Health in Schools

Annotation: The mission of the Center for Mental Health in Schools at UCLA is to improve outcomes for young people by enhancing policies, programs, and practices for addressing barriers to learning and promoting the field of mental health in schools. Through collaboration, the center focuses on enhancing practitioner roles, functions, and competence; interfacing with systemic reform movements; assisting localities in building and maintaining their own infrastructure for training, support, and continuing education; and weaving together school and community resources that foster comprehensive, integrated approaches to healthy development. The center sponsors the national initiative New Directions for Student Support, designed to revolutionize what schools do to address barriers to learning and teaching.The center is funded in part by the Office of Adolescent Health, Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The center publishes newsletters and reports, maintains an open listserv, and sponsors conferences and training seminars.

Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center on Autism and Development Disabilities (ITAC)

Annotation: The Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center (ITAC) on Autism and Developmental Disabilities, part of the Combating Autism Act Initiative, works to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents who have, or are at risk for developing, Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and other developmental disabilities. The Center provides technical assistance to interdisciplinary programs that will better train professionals to use valid and reliable screening and diagnostic tools and provide evidence-based interventions for children with ASD and other developmental disabilities. The Web site provides links to related resources and materials plus a state-by-state directory of related programs.

National Abandoned Infants Assistance Resource Center (AIA)

Annotation: The National Abandoned Infants Assistance (AIA) Resource Center works to enhance the quality of social and health services delivered to drug- and HIV- affected children and their families. The resource center provides training, technical assistance, research, and information to service providers who assist these families. Publications include fact sheets, issue briefs, monographs and reports on the topics of abandoned infants, drug abuse, alcohol, HIV, child safety and well-being, and family well-being. Online training tools, including webinars, online tutorials, and a blog, are hosted on the website. The National AIA Resource Center, a member of the Training and Technical Assistance Network (TTA), is a service of the Children’s Bureau.

National Center for Family / Professional Partnerships (NCFPP)

Annotation: The National Center for Family / Professional Partnerships (NCFPP) is operated by Family Voices to provide technical assistance, training, and connections among Family to Family Health Information Centers (F2G HICs), Family Voices network members, and other partnering organizations. Services include electronic newsletters for the public and list services for grantees of the F2F HIC grantees. The center is funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

National Center for Project Access (NCPA)

Annotation: The National Center for Project Access (NCPA) is a technical assistance center that supports the implementation of Project Access, which focuses on improving access to health services and encouraging early detection and treatment for children with epilepsy and seizure disorders. The center works in the areas of social marketing, outreach, and communicating with diverse communities. It coordinates meetings, promotes best practices, provides training, develops materials, and conducts focus groups. It is funded by a cooperative agreement from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning (ECDTL)

Annotation: The National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning (ECDTL) supports meaningful learning for children and the early educators who support them. The center is funded and guided by the U.S. Office of Head Start and the U.S. Office of Child Care to promote excellence across all ECE programs by offering resources, building program capacity, and encouraging consistent practices. It is one of four national centers funded by the U.S. Office of Head Start.

National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety

Annotation: The National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) strives to enhance the health and safety of all children exposed to hazards associated with agricultural work an rural environments. The center provides guidance for childhood injury prevention programs in both private and public sectors; guides and supports efforts in identifying potential interventions to protect children from agricultural hazards; and convenes consensus development sessions to address complex or controversial issues in childhood injury prevention. The center addresses rural recreational safety including horses and ATVs; provides technical assistance and training to professionals on youth safety issues; and collaborates with major agricultural organizations, health and safety professionals and youth-serving groups. A variety of reports, fact sheets, guidelines, and other electronic resources are available on the Web site.

National Coordinating and Evaluation Center for the Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program (NCEC SCDAA )

Annotation: The National Coordinating and Evaluation Center for the Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program (NCEC SCDAA) works with grantees of the national Sickle Cell Disease and Newborn Screening Program, which is comprised of 17 funded community based sickle cell disease (SCD) projects and the NCEC SCDAA. The community–based SCD projects partner with state newborn screening programs, comprehensive sickle cell treatment centers, and health care professionals to provide support to infants screened positive for SCD and trait and their families. The projects work cooperatively and with theNCEC SCDAA to implement a model program of SCD carrier follow-up to include notification, extended family testing, counseling and education of affected individuals and families. The Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program is administered by the Division of Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs in Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).

National Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Data Analysis Resource Center (NEDARC)

Annotation: The National Emergency Medical Services for Children Data Analysis Resource Center (NEDARC) assists Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies and Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) managers in developing the capability to collect, analyze, and utilize EMS data. The center provides consultation and technical assistance with EMS/EMSC activities. The Web site provides online tutorials and a resource library of templates, state fact sheets, publications, research resources, statistics, and other materials. NEDARC is funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

National Resource Center for Adoption (NRCA)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Adoption (NRCA) -- formerly the National Child Welfare Resource Center for Adoption -- works to increase the capacity of States, Tribes, and territories to improve adoption systems; integrate policy and practice; and develop, expand, strengthen, and improve the quality and effectiveness of adoption services provided to children and youth in the child welfare system. The NRCA also helps jurisdictions improve the effectiveness and quality of permanency support and preservation services. The center's website provides access to the news on adoption together with tools, curricula, reports, fact sheets, webcasts, and other resources. The center participates in the Children's Bureau Training and Technical Assistance Network (TTA).

National Resource Center for Child Welfare Data and Technology (NRC-CWDT)

Annotation: The Resource Center for Child Welfare Data and Technology (NRC-CWDT), formerly the National Resource Center for InformationTechnology in Child Welfare, assists courts, States, and Tribes by providing technical assistance on data and information systems to help improve the quality of collected data, build tcapacity to use the information for decision-making, and develop or improve case management and data collection systems. The NRC-CWDT works to improve the quality of data reported to the Federal Government in the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), and the National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD). National Resource Center for Diligent Recruitment at AdoptUSKids (NRCDR)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Diligent Recruitment (NRCDR) at AdoptUSKids provides training and technical assistance to states, Tribes, territories, and courts to increase their capacity to recruit and retain foster, adoptive, and kinship families. NRCDR provides technical assistance, tools, coaching, and other support in its efforts to create lasting systemic changes to improve safety, permanency, and well-being outcomes for children, youth and families. National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (NRC)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (NRC) at the University of Colorado Denver promotes health and safety in out-of-home child care settings throughout the nation. NRC collaborates with the American Public Health Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau to produce national health and safety performance standards guidelines for out-of-home child care programs. National Resource Center for Youth Development (NRCYD)

Annotation: The National Resource Center for Youth Development (NRCYD), through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Children's Bureau, provides training and technical assistance to publicly administered and supported child welfare agencies. The center works to increase the capacity within states and tribes to effectively meet the needs of adolescents in state and tribal child welfare systems. NRCYD helps states incorporate youth into all areas of programs and services, implement services that address legislative requirements, and prepare for Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSR) and Program Improvement Plan (PIP) development and implementation. The center produces newsletters and publications covering best practices and current trends in youth work;. Reports, monographs, booklets, and bulletins can be downloaded from the Web site. National School Safety Center (NSSC)

Annotation: The National School Safety Center (NSSC) serves as an advocate for safe, secure and peaceful schools worldwide and as a catalyst for the prevention of school crime and violence. Emphasis is placed on the prevention of school crime and violence, and on programs to improve student attendance, achievement, and school climate. The center provides consultation and technical assistance, offers a school safety assessment program, sponsors conferences, workshops, and training seminars, and produces videotapes and publications (including news updates and resource papers).

National Sudden and Unexpected Infant/Child Death and Pregnancy Loss Program Support Center (NSIDPSC)

Annotation: The National SIDS Sudden Unexpected Infant/Child Death and Pregnancy Loss Program Support Center (PSC), funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), helps professionals and organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels to initiate, expand, or improve their risk-reduction education and bereavement support programming. PSC provides information, training, and educational materials for families and for professionals. Programs include the African American Faith-Based Bereavement Support Initiative, the Healthy Child Care America Back to Sleep Train the Trainer Campaign, continuing education programs for nurses and pharmacists, and the Kicks Count campaign aimed at reducing stillbirths.

Newborn Screening Technical Assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPS)

Annotation: Newborn Screening Technical Assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPS) is a national resource center for state newborn screening programs and stakeholders. NewSTEPs provides data, technical assistance, and training to newborn screening programs and assists states with quality improvement initiatives. The website contains a data repository, data infographics, state profiles, quality practice resources, information about NewSTEPs non-regulatory site review program, news and education, reports, and technical and financial support for improvement of timeliness within newborn screening.

SAMHSA Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Center for Excellence

Annotation: The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Center for Excellence is a project of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) devoted to preventing and treating FASD. The center has congressional mandates to: 1) study innovative clinical interventions and service delivery improvement strategies; 2) identify communities with exemplary comprehensive systems of care; 3) provide technical assistance to communities without comprehensive systems of care; 4) provide training to individuals in various service systems dealing with persons and families affected by FASD; 5) develop innovative techniques to prevent alcohol use by women in childbearing years; and 6) perform other functions, to the extent authorized by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, after consideration of recommendations made by the National Task Force on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. The Information Resource Center within the FASD Center for Excellence maintains an online database of selected journal articles, reports, books, and other materials to identify evidence-based information on FASD. The FASD Center also publishes special reports and provides public access (by appointment) to its Viewing Library located in Rockville, Maryland.
