American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

Annotation: The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) promotes and integrates scientific research, education and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life. ACSM offers members informational publications and video materials, meetings, and continuing education. Membership is open to interested individuals as well as health professionals.

American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM)

Annotation: Formed in 1991, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) offers a forum that fosters a collegial relationship among primary care sports medicine physicians. The AMSSM provides educational opportunities for primary care sports medicine physicians through meetings and video and printed materials. The AMSSM Web site is an educational resource for members, other professionals and the general public.

National Youth Sports Safety Foundation (NYSSF)

Annotation: The National Youth Sports Safety Foundation, formerly the National Youth Sports Foundation for the Prevention of Athletic Injuries, is a nonprofit educational organization established in1989 dedicated to reducing the number and severity of injuries youth sustain in sports and fitness activities through the education o f health professionals, program administrators, coaches, parents and athletes. At the heart of the Foundation's mission is a commitment to promote the healthy development of youth, and to keep them physically active and in sports for life. The foundation serves as an educational resource and its publications include a quarterly newsletter , the Yearbook of Youth Sports Safety, injury fact sheets, resource sheets and guidelines. The Foundation is the lead organization for National Youth Sports Safety Month, a national health event to promote safety in sports activities. A publications list is available.

President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition (PCFSN)

Annotation: The President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition (PCFSN) engages, educates, and empowers all Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition. Since 1956, the Council has created and promoted programs and initiatives that motivate people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to be active and eat healthy
