Heartland Regional Genetics and Newborn Screening Collaborative

Annotation: The Heartland Regional Genetics and Newborn Screening Collaborative -- formerly the Great Plains Regional Network -- encompasses the eight states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota, all working together to promote access to quality clinical genetic services, genetic testing, and public health programs for the citizens of the states within the Heartland collaborative. The collaborative works to improve access to expanded newborn screening, professional and public genetics literacy, equitable access to genetics evaluation, counseling and testing services, and cooperation between neighboring states within the region. The collaborative aims to facilitate and promote collaboration, assessment, planning, program development and evaluation, education, research and public policy activities related to these issues. The web site is designed to facilitate communication within the collaborative and to inform the collaborative of regional genetics resources, projects and events. The collaborative is one of seven Genetics and Newborn Screening Regional Collaborative Groups (RCs) designated by the Genetics Services Branch, Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, Health Resources and Services Administration in 2004.

Methamphetamine Awareness and Prevention Project, South Dakota (MAPP-SD)

Annotation: The Methamphetamine Awareness and Prevention Project, South Dakota (MAPP-SD) encourages communities to form coalitions of citizens, business and community leaders, law enforcement, and faith-based organizations to examine methamphetamine (meth) issues and their community. Working together with a professionally trained Community Coalition Coordinator, communities develop projects aimed at incrasing awareness of the dangers of meth and educating the public on how they can become involved. MAAP-SD community-based coalitions provide materials to support local efforts, serve as a resource for information on the awareness and prevention of meth in neighborhoods and as a source of educational trainings for community, regional, and statewide groups.

South Dakota Maternal and infant Health Task Force

Annotation: The South Dakota Maternal and Infant Health Task Force is a statewide initiative to reduce preventable deaths among mothers and infants and to improve health outcomes for families across South Dakota. The multi-sector group, comprised of clinical providers, tribal representatives, state government officials, legislators, insurers, community leaders, and parents, serves as the state’s central coordinating body for maternal and infant health strategies. Its aim is to align systems, unite partners, and turn data into action through innovative, collaborative approaches that address health gaps and disparities

South Dakota Oral Health Coalition

Annotation: The South Dakota Oral Health Coalition was formed in 2002. The Coalition consists of a diverse group of individuals and organizations that advocate for policies and funding for programs that will improve the state’s oral and systemic health status, especially for those most vulnerable. This group is comprised of representatives from nonprofit organizations, associations, government, and the private sector. These representatives facilitate efforts to collect data, report progress, and assist with ongoing leadership of Coalition efforts.

South Dakota State Library

Annotation: The State Library is the state's information center facilitating the cost effective collection and efficient delivery of needed information (in usable format), especially focusing on electronic information, to state government, the state's citizens directly or through local public libraries, schools or other educational institutions. Services to consumers include referrrals, publications, and reference information. The library also sponsors workshops and training seminars.
