Connecting Smiles

Annotation: The Connecting Smiles initiative aims to improve oral health of the citizens of South Carolina by strengthening the linkage between individuals, community-based programs and medical and dental providers.

Hands on Health South Carolina (Hands on Health-SC)

Annotation: Hands on Health South Carolina provides information resources and links to health and wellness websites that focus on health issues of particular importance to South Carolina citizens and communities. The website includes information about health problems, environment and health, health services, and health news. Additional content includes information about health projects in South Carolina; multimedia resources; and information about health-related websites, careers, and dictionaries. Spanish-language resources and tools for health professionals are also provided.

Safe Kids Upstate

Annotation: Safe Kids Upstate is one of more than 630 coalitions affiliated with Safe Kids Worldwide®, an organization whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children 14 and under. There are 15 Safe Kids coalitions in South Carolina. Safe Kids Upstate Coalition, led by the Children's Hospital of Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center under the department of Children’s Advocacy, consists of almost 100 community partners who join together to fight unintentional injuries.

South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

Annotation: The South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (SC Campaign) was founded in 1994 to combat increasingly high rates of teen pregnancy in all 46 counties in the state. Through mission based focus areas of training & technical assistance, public awareness & advocacy and research & evaluation; the objective is to build the capacity of local communities to address teen pregnancy within their own neighborhoods. Staff instructs and assists community leaders to help teens make smarter decisions about reproductive health, trains youth-serving professionals, initiates communication within families, and advocates for grassroots programs that will educate and empower teens. SC Campaign's campaign website, Not Right Now, provides information for teens and parents.

South Carolina State Library

Annotation: The South Carolina State Library provides reference information to consumers. The library provides a statewide, online information service. One of the databases available focuses on health issues. It also publishes a newsletter, and sponsors conferences, training seminars and workshops.

Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG)

Annotation: The Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG) is a network of providers of clinical genetic services, public health departments, consumers, and related laboratory services working together with affected individuals and their families. SERGG collects and disseminates information about genetic services, newborn screening programs, and other public health services related to genetics in the region, and supports research to promote better genetic services. The Group works to enhance the quality of genetic services in the Southeastern Region which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands and to provide a forum for exchange of information among professionals who provide genetic services and the consumers of these services in the southeastern region of the United States.
