Family Equality Council

Annotation: Family Equality Council works to ensure equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual families (LGBT) by building community, changing hearts and minds, and advancing social justice for all families. Services include providing support, skills and community needed for LGBT-headed families at all stages of life; leveraging the power of LGBT families—telling stories and driving change in communities, states and across the nation; focusing public and media attention on the love, strength and contributions of LGBT families; educating members of government, schools, faith-based communities, health care institutions and other social systems about how they can promote family equality for all; promoting a proactive policy agenda that sets the standard of support for LGBT-headed families in schools, faith institutions, health care and family creation and protection; defeating or changing laws at the local, state and federal level that compromise family equality for all; and partnering with other LGBT and broader social justice organizations to provide the greatest positive impact and to maximize resources.

HealthConnect One

Annotation: HealthConnect One focuses on collaborative work with grassroots maternal and child health (MCH) and social service providers. Activities include training community health workers (CHWs), including doulas and breastfeeding peer counselors, to improve the health of their own community; assisting organizations in developing programs that use peer support, incorporating trained CHWs into paid positions in outreach, health education, and community health advocacy; and mobilizing diverse stakeholders to build policies and programs that improve MCH in some of the most distressed communities in the country. The website provides information on advocacy; programs and training; news, events and resources; and ways to get involved.

National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE)

Annotation: The National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) provides training and support to state administrators, including 11 grantees funded under the Safe and Supportive Schools grant program, school and district administrators, institutions of higher education, teachers, support staff at schools, communities and families, and students and seeks to improve schools' conditions for learning through measurement and program implementation, so that all students have the opportunity to realize academic success in safe and supportive environments. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Students and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Oley Foundation for Home Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition

Annotation: The Oley Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides free information and psycho-social support to patients requiring home nutrition support and their families. This includes enteral (tube) nutrition, for those who cannot eat but have at least a partially-functioning intestinal tract; and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition, for those who cannot absorb nutrients into their systems because of a damaged or removed intestinal tract. Oley support services include an information clearinghouse, bimonthly newsletter, national toll-free consumer networking, local grassroots support, conferences and research on health outcomes.

Oregon Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs (OCCYSHN)

Annotation: OCCYSHN is Oregon’s Title V program for children and youth with special health needs funded by the federal Maternal Child Health Bureau, through a grant which is administered through the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center at Oregon Health and Sciences University. The Center works to promote coordinated, family-centered, community-based systems of care; provide policy and program development, population-based assessment and surveillance, and leadership for health systems and services in Oregon.

Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN)

Annotation: The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims, and ensure that rapists are brought to justice. RAINN sponsors public awareness events and special projects, and provides statistics, counseling resources, prevention tips, public awareness materials, and legislative news updates. The Network operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE.

University of Minnesota, Institute on Community Integration

Annotation: The Institute on Community Integration aims to improve the community services and social supports available to individuals with developmental and other disabilities, as well as their families, throughout the United States and abroad. The institute conductions research, offers professional training, and produces publications, including newsletters, reports, resource guides, and curricula.

University of Southern California School of Social Work, Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families (CIR)

Annotation: The Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families endeavors to strengthen the transition of veterans and their families into the community. Through four pillars—research, innovation, education/training and partnerships —CIR informs policymakers, trains providers, builds community networks and capacity, and drives applied research toward improving the lives of community-dwelling veterans and their families, with an emphasis on promising interventions that have broad applicability and scalability. With the help of its many partners and collaborators, CIR works to increase the capacity and competency of behavioral healthcare providers by informing and developing innovative education and training, and conducting research that directly addresses the transitions of military-impacted populations.

Youth Transitions Funders Group

Annotation: The Youth Transition Funders Group is a network of grantmakers whose mission is to help all youth make a successful transition to adulthood by age 25. Goals include five critical outcomes: educational achievement in preparation for career and community participation, including a high school diploma, postsecondary degree and/or vocational certificate training; gainful employment and/or access to career training to achieve life-long economic success; connections to a positive support system - namely, guidance from family members and caring adults, as well as access to health, counseling and mental health services; the ability to be a responsible and nurturing parent; and the capacity to participate in the civic life of the community.
