Annotation: The American Sickle Cell Anemia Association (ASCAA) provides education, testing, and counseling to populations at risk for sickle cell anemia and its hemoglobinopathy variants. Counseling, education, and testing are also provided to the bilingual population. Services to consumers include referrals, reference information, and publications. Annotation: The National Coordinating and Evaluation Center for the Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program (NCEC SCDAA) works with grantees of the national Sickle Cell Disease and Newborn Screening Program, which is comprised of 17 funded community based sickle cell disease (SCD) projects and the NCEC SCDAA. The community–based SCD projects partner with state newborn screening programs, comprehensive sickle cell treatment centers, and health care professionals to provide support to infants screened positive for SCD and trait and their families. The projects work cooperatively and with theNCEC SCDAA to implement a model program of SCD carrier follow-up to include notification, extended family testing, counseling and education of affected individuals and families. The Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program is administered by the Division of Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs in Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).

Annotation: The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), formerly the National Association for Sickle Cell Disease, is a voluntary membership organization that promotes the search for a cure for all people in the world with sickle cell disease while striving to improve the quality of health, life , and services for individuals, families, and communities affected by sickle cell disease and related conditions, SCDAA's national programs include education and awareness, research support, patient advocacy and technical assistance; conferences, training seminars, and workshops. Publications include educational materials (available in English and Spanish) and an online newsletter.

Annotation: The Sickle Cell Foundation of Greater Montgomery is a nonprofit community service organization. Services offered by the Foundation include sickle cell education, testing, counseling, supportive services and referral services. The Foundation was founded in January of 1982. The Foundation serves nine counties in central and southern Alabama. These counties include Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, Butler, Lowndes, Chambers, Tallapoosa, Crenshaw, and Coffee counties. The main objectives of the Foundation are to give accurate information about sickle cell disease and related hemoglobinopathies, to provide testing and diagnostic services to interested persons, to counsel individuals with positive test results so they can make informed decisions about their lives and to provide supportive services for clients and their family members.
