Annotation: The University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC) works to reduce societal losses due to transportation crash injuries and deaths. Research focuses on four areas of surface transportation safety: the driver/occupant, the pedestrian/bicyclist, the vehicle, and the roadway. The center is staffed by professionals in the fields of education, engineering, epidemiology, journalism, medicine, psychology, public health, sociology, statistics, and library science. The center provides referrals and reference information. Publications include fact sheets, research publications, and a newsletter (Highway Safety Directions). An electronic bibliography of HSRC research publications, with some full-text links, is available on the Web site. Some materials are available in Spanish.
