Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)

Annotation: The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) is a non-profit association that represents the public health agencies of the U.S. and territories and is engaged in a wide range of legislative, scientific, educational, and programmatic issues and activities on behalf of public health. Its mission is to formulate and influence sound national public health policy and to service state health departments in the development and implementation of programs and policies to promote heath and prevent disease. Program areas include access, infectious disease, preparedness, standards, workforce development, environmental health, public health informatics, state health services, accreditation and performance, and prevention and health promotion. Services to consumers include publications, newsletters (including the electronic Primary Care and Prevention Network News), and reference information. The Web site includes resources on evidence-based public health interventions and links to each state's public health department.

Center for Oral Health (COH)

Annotation: The Center for Oral Health (COH) is a nonprofit, California-based organization, founded in 1985, dedicated to promoting public oral health, with a focus on children and vulnerable populations. Activities include elevating the importance of oral health among all populations, establishing a comprehensive dental public health infrastructure in California, advocating for policies and practices that improve oral health, eliminating barriers to care, and preventing disease. The website contains information on current oral health issues, programs, and legislation; news and events; products for public health dentistry; publications; and research. Topics include continuum of care, early intervention, fluoridation and fluoride varnish, health reform, needs assessment, oral health access, and school policy. It was formerly the Dental Health Foundation.

Foundation for eHealth Initiative

Annotation: The Foundation for eHealth Initiative is an independent non-profit organization working to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare through information and information technology.  Foundation programs focus on engaging multiple and diverse stakeholders -- healthcare organizations, clinician groups, employers, health plans, healthcare information technology organizations, manufacturers, public health agencies, academic and research institutions, and public sector stakeholders -- in addressing the quality, safety, and efficiency challenges of our healthcare system through the use of interoperable information technology. Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology and Statistics Program (MCHESP)

Annotation: The Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology and Statistics Program (MCHESP) helps MCH practitioners on the federal, state, and local levels to improve their capacity to gather, analyze, and use data for planning and policymaking. The website provides information about the graduate student epidemiology program including internships for public health students, the DataSpeak web conference series, and supported projects. Additional resources include publishing technical assistance, publications (chartbooks and databooks), and research and data.

National Center for Health Marketing (NCHM)

Annotation: The National Center for Health Marketing (NCHM) provides national leadership in health marketing science and in its application to impact public health. NCHM (together with the National Center for Health Statistics and the Center for Public Health Informatics) is part of the Coordinating Center for Health Information and Services at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII)

Annotation: Through fostering collaboration, innovation and action, the Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) advances public health practitioners' ability to strategically apply and manage information systems. The institute provide service, educates stakeholders, informs policy, and conducts research on appropriate use of public health information systems. The Public Health Informatics Institute is a program of the Task Force for Child Survival and Development, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The mission of the task force is to help public and private organizations promote health and human development by building coalitions, forging consensus, and leveraging scarce resources.

Public Health Infrastructure Resource Center

Annotation: The Public Health Infrastructure Resource Center (PHIRC) was created by the Public Health Foundation (PHF) to help meet the needs and interests of states, communities, and the public in assessing and building their infrastructures. This Web-based center, which serves as a gateway to information and resources to build capacity of public health systems, provides summaries and links to publications, Web sites, organizations, projects, and learning tools on general public health infrastructure. The site is organized according to the three core areas of public health infrastructure outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Public Health Workforce; Organizational & Systems Capacity; and Information, Data, and Communications Systems. Funding for the PHIRC has been provided by the CDC and PHF.
