Docs for Tots

Annotation: Docs For Tots is a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization formed to encourage more doctors to serve as active advocates for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers on the national, state, and local levels. Formed in 2003, Docs For Tots encourages and supports doctors in a concentrated effort to respond to the requests of child advocacy organizations and others to participate in advocating for policies and practices that improve the well-being of young children. The organization develops issue-specific talking points, presentations, and training and technical assistance materials for use by its network of participating doctors and provides links to child advocacy organizations across the country.

U.S. Office of Head Start (OHS)

Annotation: The Office of Head Start (OHS) advises the Assistant Secretary for Children and Families on issues regarding the Head Start program (including Early Head Start). The Office develops legislative and budgetary proposals; identifies areas for research, demonstration, and developmental activities; presents operational planning objectives and initiatives relating to Head Start; and oversees the progress of approved activities. OHS provides leadership and coordination for the activities of the Head Start program in the ACF Central Office including the Head Start Regional Program Units. The Office represents Head Start in inter-agency activities with other Federal and non-Federal organizations. Early Head Start promotes healthy prenatal outcomes, enhances the development of infants and toddlers, and promotes healthy family functioning.

Prevent Blindness America

Annotation: Prevent Blindness America is a volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight. Focused on promoting a continuum of vision care, Prevent Blindness America touches the lives of millions of people each year through public and professional education, certified vision screening training, community and patient service programs and research. These services are made possible through the generous support of the American public. Together with a network of affiliates, divisions and chapters, it's committed to eliminating preventable blindness in America. Catalogs of publications, audiovisual materials, and posters are available to the public and health care professionals. Limited materials are available in Spanish.

Scottish Rite Centers for Childhood Language Disorders

Annotation: The Scottish Rite Centers for Childhood Language Disorders provide diagnostic evaluation, referrals, and treatment of childhood language disorders and associated learning disabilities. These services are available to preschool children and those in early grades who have difficulty speaking, reading, or understanding the spoken word. Centers located throughout the country, making services available to children regardless of race or creed or the family's ability to pay. Publications include a monthly journal, and occasional local conferences and training seminars are sponsored.

Wake County Public School System, Project Enlightenment

Annotation: Project Enlightenment offers an array of services to help teachers enhance the development and learning of young children. Consultation is available for classroom environments and programs as well as assistance with individual children around their developmental, social/emotional and behavioral well-being. Staff development and training opportunities are offered each year. The Parent Teacher Resource Center offers a variety of classroom activities and ideas and includes a production area.
