Great Kids Inc.

Annotation: Great Kids Inc. is a nonprofit international training and consulting organization dedicated to developing early childhood and home based programs for families with children 0-5 years. It provides training materials, support services, and curricula for child care providers and program staff (including home visitors). Materials are available in both English and Spanish.

Infant-Parent Institute

Annotation: The Infant-Parent Institute is a private teaching and clinical service institute that specializes in problems of attachment in infants and adults. The institute is independent and receives no public funding. Services to consumers include referrals, clinical assessment, psychotherapy, parent consultation, publications, and reference information. The Institute sponsors some conferences, training seminars, and workshops. Training materials include a newsletter and a library of 14 documentary videotapes.

Lactation Education Resources

Annotation: Lactation Education Resources strives to raise the standard of practice of certified lactation consultants by offering quality training programs and innovative educational materials for those who desire to become certified lactation consultants and continuing education for those who are certified. This program provides information on both on-site and online training opportunities, incuding Web links to self-learning modules, power-point presentations, and counseling protocols. Clinical updates and parent handouts can be downloaded from the Web site.The program is a contuation of the National Capitol Lactation Center at Georgetown University, which was dissolved in 1997.

National Center for Family / Professional Partnerships (NCFPP)

Annotation: The National Center for Family / Professional Partnerships (NCFPP) is operated by Family Voices to provide technical assistance, training, and connections among Family to Family Health Information Centers (F2G HICs), Family Voices network members, and other partnering organizations. Services include electronic newsletters for the public and list services for grantees of the F2F HIC grantees. The center is funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

National Foster Parent Association (NFPA)

Annotation: The National Foster Parent Association (NFPA) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that supports support foster parents in achieving safety, permanence and well-being for the children and youth in their care. NFPA promotes communication and cooperation among foster parents, foster parent associations, child care agencies and other child advocates; strives to improve the foster care system; encourages the recruitment and retention of foster parents; and provides information on current issues and events regarding foster care. In addition, NFPA provides training programs, technical assistance, education materials, and information and referral services.

PACER Center

Annotation: The PACER Center is a parent training and information center for families of children and youth with all disabilities from birth through 21 years old. Located in Minneapolis, PACER provides information, support, workshops, and referrals to families and professionals in Minnesota and across the country. The organization sponsors conferences, produces a variety of publications (with some materials available in Spanish and Asian languages), and develops and develops specialized websites. PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center provides resources designed to benefit all students, including those with disabilities.

Parent to Parent USA (P2PUSA)

Annotation: Parent to Parent USA (P2PUSA) is a national nonprofit organization committed to promoting access, quality and leadership in parent to parent support across the country. The website highlights statewide organizations that have parent to parent support as a core program and demonstrate a commitment to implementing evidence-based P2P USA endorsed practices.

PAVE (PAVE)

Annotation: PAVE (Partnerships for Action Voices for Empowerment) is a parent-directed organization that provides information, training, and support for individuals with disabilities, parents, and professionals in Washington. PAVE staff comprise individuals with disabilities and parents of individuals with disabilities who have a good understanding of the challenges of accessing services. PAVE's resources include a quarterly newsletter (PAVE Pipeline), Web site, a Facebook page, You Are the Expert Conference, bilingual and bicultural staff, and free and low-cost materials in a variety of formats and languages. Programs cover a variety of areas and resources including the Family to Family Health Information Center.

PE Central

Annotation: PE Central provides information and programs for those responsible for teaching children in physical activity settings. Although the organization primarily caters to physical education teachers, it does offer information for parents and programs for students as well. Examples of PE Central programs include "Log It" -- an internet-based pedometer step-logging program (located at http://www.peclogit.org), and Get Active Stay Active, a program for teens (located at http://getactivestayactive.com)

University of Washington School of Nursing, NCAST-AVENUW

Annotation: NCAST-AVENUW is a self-sustaining program at the University of Washington affiliated with the School of Nursing and the Center on Human Development and Disability. The program is designed to give professionals, parents and other caregivers the knowledge and skills to provide nurturing environments for young children. NCAST-AVENUW develops and disseminates innovative research-based products and training programs for practitioners and researchers in many disciplines and settings which can be used with typically developing children, those at risk for developmental delays, and those diagnosed with special health needs.
