Annotation: Cancer Care is a nonprofit organization that helps people with cancer and their families to cope with the disease. The organization provides psychological, social, and educational services and financial assistance for people in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Individual counseling, information, and referrals and group counseling and education programs are offered nationally through the Cancer Care Counseling Line (1 800 813-HOPE). Services are also offered online. Cancer Care also provides publications, including a newsletter, and sponsors conferences, training seminars, and workshops. Some materials are available in Spanish. All services are free of charge.

Annotation: Cayaba Care is a community-based maternity program that provides wrap-around support throughout pregnancy and postpartum to improve maternal health outcomes. The program offers personalized maternal healthcare support through Maternity Navigators who are community health workers and certified doulas working closely with members both in-home and virtually. Founded in 2020 by obstetricans, mothers, and maternity care experts to address maternal health inequities in Black and Brown communities in Philadelphia, Cayaba Care offers prenatal support, mental and emotional support, labor and birth support, breastfeeding resources, postpartum care coordination, and nutritional counseling. The program currently serves select counties in Philadelphia, Delaware, and New Jersey.

Annotation: The Education Law Center (ELC) advocates on behalf of public school children for access to an equal and adequate education under state and federal laws, ELC focuses on improving public education for disadvantaged children, and children with disabilities and other special needs. ELC uses a wide variety of strategies, including public education and engagement, policy initiatives, research, communications and, as a last resort, legal action. ELC works to improve education for urban school children by advocating for effective implementation of the programs and reforms ordered in the landmark Abbott v. Burke school funding case, and provides direct legal assistance to lower income children in disputes involving access to an adequate, equal and appropriate education under state and federal laws. ELC focuses primarily in New Jersey and also provides information, technical assistance and support to attorneys and advocates in other states seeking to improve public education.

Annotation: The KinderSmile Foundation is a community-based affiliate of the National Children's Oral Health Foundation that advocates for optimal oral health for children and families in underserved communities in New Jersey. The foundation's community-based services include oral health education for children, parents, and caregivers; oral examinations and referrals for pregnant women and new mothers; and opportunities for community service learning for high school and college students. The foundation also facilitates an annual oral health fair.

Annotation: The New Jersey Department of Health Children’s Oral Health Program is implemented by three regional oral health coordinators who are strategically located in the northern, central and southern parts of the state. The program provides a variety of services and resources including age-appropriate school-based educational activities conducted by registered dental hygienists, a school-based fluoride mouth rinse program, educational resources for school nurses and staff, oral health education for participants in the Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Food Program (WIC), and oral health education for public health and social service professionals. Annotation: The Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund provides eligible families in New Jersey with financial assistance to help them cover medical expenses that were previously incurred because their child became catastrophically ill or injured. Covered expenses include, but are not limited to, special ambulatory care, acute or specialized in- or out-patient hospital care, medical equipment, medically-related home modifications, home health care and medical transportation.

Annotation: The New York-Mid-Atlantic Consortium for Genetic and Newborn Screening Services (NYMAC) was established in September 2004 as one of seven regional collaboratives in the country funded by the Genetic Services Branch in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)'s Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The charge of this group is to develop a regional approach to address the maldistribution of genetic resources in the New York-Mid-Atlantic region, which includes Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health is the lead institution for this project.

Annotation: Rutgers Center for State Health Policy is an initiative of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IHHCPAR) to create a formal capacity within Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, for policy analysis, research, training, facilitation, and consultation on state health policy. The Center provides state health policy-makers in New Jersey and elsewhere with impartial research findings and analyses to inform health policy decisions. Areas of current research activities include: long-term care and support services, access and coverage, health and long-term care workforce, health system performance improvement, and cross cutting and other projects.
