Battle Creek Community Foundation

Annotation: The Battle Creek Community Foundation, founded in 1974, is a public foundation built by individuals, families and businesses that care about their community. The Community Foundation distributes grants to a variety of non-profit programs, organizations and other community-oriented charitable efforts that benefit Battle Creek residents, and scholarships to local students. The Community Foundation also provides broader, community leadership by bringing diverse groups of individuals and organizations together to develop community-wide solutions for problems and issues.

Region 4 Midwest Genetics Collaborative

Annotation: The Region 4 Midwest Genetics Collaborative is one of seven groups using a regional approach to improve access to services, quality care, and genetics expertise in a medical home environment that is culturally sensitive. The region 4 collaborative comprises public health agencies, geneticist and other subspecialists, primary care providers, newborn screening and genetic testing laboratories, and families of children with genetic conditions from seven states (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin). The website provides news and resources including information about partners, forums, workgroups, education, and regional meetings. The project is administered by the Michigan Public Health Institute and supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

Regional Health Alliance

Annotation: A regional public-private partnership, the Regional Health Alliance (RHA) works to improve the community's health in the Calhoun County region in Michigan. The RHA researches health problems, prioritizes health issues, sets indicator targets for the year 2010, benchmarks progress in achieving objectives, identifies resources, encourages and assists in the development of a coordinated regional health plan, serves as a catalyst for positive change in the health care arena, measures the impact of Regional Health Alliance (RHA) initiatives, fosters collaborations, and initiates projects to promote the health of the community. Utilizing a wholistic definition of health, the RHA utilizes preventive and indicator-driven approaches to improve health care access, to decrease chronic disease, and to meet specific health indicator targets by 2010. Issue action groups focus on access to care, maternal and infant health, school wellness program advisory, obesity reduction and regular physical activity, and adolescent pregnancy prevention. It is funded by the Battle Creek Community Foundation.

Washtenaw Area Council for Children (WACC)

Annotation: The Washtenaw Area Council for Children (WACC) is the Michigan Children's Trust Fund designated agency for the prevention of child abuse and neglect in Washtenaw County. The Council works to prevent child abuse and neglect through educational services and programs to children, parents, community members and youth-serving professional throughout Washtenaw County. WACC was established in 1975 as the Washtenaw County Coordination Council for Children at Risk to specifically address to need of inter-disciplinary, inter-agency cooperation in matters concerning the safety of children and youth.
