Black Hawk County Health Department

Child and Family Policy Center (CFPC)

Annotation: The Child and Family Policy Center (CFPC) is a nonprofit research and advocacy organization promoting outcome-based policies that improve child well-being. The center focuses on a range of policy areas in Iowa, including child care and early education, health and well-being, and family economic success. CFPC also conducts national evaluation work focused on early-childhood system building and policy development promoting comprehensive, asset-based approaches to supporting children and families.

Early Childhood Iowa

Annotation: Early Childhood Iowa (ECI) is a confederation or alliance of stakeholders in early care, health and education systems that affect children age 0 to 5 in the state of Iowa. The structure of ECI includes six system component groups that describe the necessary elements of an effective and comprehensive system involving governance, planning and administration; professional development; public engagement; quality services and programs; resources and funding; and results accountability. On July 1, 2023, Early Childhood Iowa will became part of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services

Healthiest State Initiative

Annotation: The Healthiest State Initiative is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization driven by the goal to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation. By engaging worksites, communities, schools, retail food, organizations, institutions and individuals, the initiative aims to inspire Iowans and their communities to improve their health and happiness, and ultimately achieve the goal.

Heartland Regional Genetics and Newborn Screening Collaborative

Annotation: The Heartland Regional Genetics and Newborn Screening Collaborative -- formerly the Great Plains Regional Network -- encompasses the eight states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota, all working together to promote access to quality clinical genetic services, genetic testing, and public health programs for the citizens of the states within the Heartland collaborative. The collaborative works to improve access to expanded newborn screening, professional and public genetics literacy, equitable access to genetics evaluation, counseling and testing services, and cooperation between neighboring states within the region. The collaborative aims to facilitate and promote collaboration, assessment, planning, program development and evaluation, education, research and public policy activities related to these issues. The web site is designed to facilitate communication within the collaborative and to inform the collaborative of regional genetics resources, projects and events. The collaborative is one of seven Genetics and Newborn Screening Regional Collaborative Groups (RCs) designated by the Genetics Services Branch, Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, Health Resources and Services Administration in 2004.

State Library of Iowa, Medical Library

Annotation: The state medical library serves the medical information needs of Iowa state government employees, health sciences profesionals, and the citizens of Iowa. Copies of journal articles are available through interlibrary loan. The medical librarian is available to answer medical reference questions and perform literature searches for Iowa residents.

University of Iowa, Center for Social Science Innovation

Annotation: The University of Iowa Center for Social Science Innovation (CSSI) advances, supports, and celebrates interdisciplinary social science research. It provides tools, resources and support to help researchers investigate the post pressing issues of our sociey through four core priorities: research incubation; surveys and multimethodology research services; grant development programming; and communication and dissemination. In September 2024 the Center for Social Science Integration replaced the Public Policy Center and its subsidiary unit the Iowa Social Science Research Center.
