European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)

Annotation: The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) was established in 2005 as an European Union agency aimed at strengthening Europe's defences against infectious diseases. The ECDC's mission is to identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health posed by infectious diseases by ECDC working in partnership with national health protection bodies across Europe to strengthen and develop continent-wide disease surveillance and early warning systems. Activities include: (a) collecting, evaluating and disseminating relevant scientific and technical data; (b) providing scientific opinions and scientific and technical assistance including training; (c) providing timely information to the Commission, the Member States, Community agencies and international organisations active within the field of public health; (d) coordinating the European network of bodies operating in the fields within the Centre's mission, including networks arising from public health activities supported by the Commission and operating the dedicated surveillance networks; and (e) exchanging information, expertise and best practices, and facilitating the development and implementation of joint actions.

International Society for the Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (ISPID)

Annotation: The International Society for the Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (ISPID) is a not-for-profit organization that focuses on discovering evidence-based preventive measures for stillbirth and infant death. ISPID is also working to promote improved quality and standardization of care for affected parents. ISPID is devoted to the exchange of information among families, scientists, and other specialists in the field of perinatal and infant health and death as well as educating the community at large. ISPID is an amalgamation of the European Society for the Study and Prevention of Infant Death (ESPID), the SIDS Global Strategy Task Force (GSTF) and SIDS International.

New South Wales Multicultural Health Communication Service

Annotation: The New South Wales Multicultural Health Communication Service provides information and services to help health professionals communicate with non-English speaking communities throughout New South Wales, Australia. Resources are provided in these languages: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Assyrian, Bengali, Bosnian, Burmese, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Creole, Croatian, Czech, Dari, Dinka, Dutch, English, Farsi, Fijian, Filipino, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hmong, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Kirundi, Koori, Korean, Kurdish, Lao, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Maori, Oromo, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Pushto, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Sorani, Spanish, Tamil, Tetum, Thai, Tigrigna, Tongan, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese. U.S. Agency for International Development

Annotation: USAID's history goes back to the Marshall Plan reconstruction of Europe after World War Two and the Truman Administration's Point Four Program. In 1961, the Foreign Assistance Act was signed into law and USAID was created by executive order. Since that time, USAID has been the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. USAID is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State. Our Work supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances U.S. foreign policy objectives by supporting economic growth, agriculture and trade; global health; and democracy, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance. Assistance in five regions of the world: Sub-Saharan Africa; Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Eurasia; and the Middle East.

United States - Mexico Border Health Commission (USMBHC)

Annotation: The United States-Mexico Border Health Commission (USMBHC) provides international leadership in efforts to identify key health issues in the U.S.-Mexico border region and develop programs to address specific problems. USMBHC organizes work groups and conferences; advocates for health improvements; and promotes public awareness. The commission also provides news and information on legislative action, immunization efforts, and other relevant topics and provides an electronic newsletter. USMBHC is comprised of the federal secretaries of health, the chief health officers of the ten border states, and prominent community health professionals from both nations. The commission was created as a binational health commission in 2000 with the signing of an agreement by the Secretary of Health of Mexico and the Secretary of Health and Human Services of the United States. In Dec. 2004 the commission was designated as a Public International Organization by Executive Order of the President. Its publications are available in English and Spanish.
