Children's HealthWatch

Annotation: Children's HealthWatch, formerly Children's Sentinel Nutrition Assessment Program (C-SNAP), Children's HealthWatch works to improve child health by bringing evidence and analysis from the front lines of pediatric care to policy makers and the public. The network of pediatricians and public health researchers collects data on children up to the age of four in emergency rooms and clinics at Boston Medical Center, the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore; the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock; Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis; and St. Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia. Data is collected and analyzed on food security, housing stability, home environment issues, health, and other possible hardship experiences for young children, particularly in low income areas.

Council for Biotechnology Information

Annotation: The Council for Biotechnology Information is a coalition of biotechnology companies that aims to create a public dialogue and share information about biotechnology that is based on scientific research, expert opinion, and published reports. The council provides public information through its Web site, consumer-oriented brochures and printed materials, advertising, and a toll-free number. Topics addressed include environmental protection, better nutrition, feeding the world's population, the delivery of medicines through food, and food safety.

Food Research and Action Center (FRAC)

Annotation: Founded in 1970, the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) seeks lasting solutions to hunger and poverty in America. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, the center works to increase access to adequate food for people in need, provide greater opportunity for America's poor, and publicize efforts of local groups concerned about hunger. FRAC develops grassroots networks, conducts litigation, performs research, provides information, and works on public policy. Publications include a newsletter, and the organization sponsors conferences and training seminars.
