American Hospital Association, Maternal and Child Health Advocacy (AHA)

Annotation: The Maternal and Child Health advocacy program at the American Hospital Association is commited to driving improvement in maternal and child health by spotlighting strategies that hospitals and health systems can adopt to improve the physical, mental, and social health of patients throughout pregnancy, infancy, and beyond. The website resources are organized around three key initiatives: the Better Health for Mothers and Babies Initiative, which explores strategies for improving pregnancy and infant outcomes; Child and Adolescent Health, which focuses on caring for children so they can thrive; and Advocacy and Policy, which addresses policy and regulatory changes that affect the provision of maternal and pediatric care. The site also provides additional Maternal Health Resources from the Field from expert professional groups to help hospitals and health care systems optimize maternal safety and outcomes The AHA encourages hospitals to apply four core principles, which include examining quality and outcomes data to guide strategy and identify disparities; considering the causes of disparities in health outcomes; involving patients and community in their own care; and engaging the workforce through interdisciplinary care teams trained in person-centered care.
