U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

Annotation: The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services. AHRQ supports the National Guideline Clearinghouse, a public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines; the National Quality Measures Clearinghouse, a public resource for evidence-based quality measures and measure sets; the Patient Safety Network, a collection of patient safety news, literature, tools, and resources; and the Effective Health Care Program, a collection of research centers working to provide evidence on health care interventions.

Equity of Care

Annotation: Equity of Care is a collaborative of national organizations working to eliminate health care disparities by increasing (1) the collection of race, ethnicity, and language preference data; (2) cultural competency training for clinicians and support staff; and (3) diversity in governance and management. Participating organizations include the American Association of Medical Colleges, American College of Healthcare Executives, American Hospital Association, Catholic Health Association of the United States, and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems. The website contains a blog, a newsletter, information about events and partners, recent research, and related general resources.

Health Legacy Partnership

Annotation: The Health Legacy Partnership, co-founded by the Joseph H. Kanter Family Foundation and the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ), works to reward doctors' efforts to improve the delivery of quality healthcare; diminish healthcare disparities; improve healthcare decision making by giving people useful medical information based on scientific research; and support the development of a national outcomes database that will be used by doctors and patients to determine which treatments work best for specific diseases and conditions based on specific criteria of circumstances.

Healthy Eating Research

Annotation: Healthy Eating Research (HER) is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. HER supports research to identify, analyze, and evaluate environmental and policy strategies that can promote healthy eating among children and prevent childhood obesity. Special emphasis is given to research projects that benefit children and adolescents and their families, especially in lower-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity.

National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division of Reproductive Health (DRH)

Annotation: The Division of Reproductive Health within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion seeks to better understand maternal complications and mortality and to decrease disparities among populations at risk of death and complications from pregnancy. The division supports national and state-based surveillance systems to monitor trends and investigate health issues; conducts epidemiologic, behavioral, demographic, and health services research; and works with partners to translate research findings into health care practice, public health policy, and health promotion strategies. Data and statistics, publications, a glossary, and related links are available on the Web site.

National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, Health Disparities Research Program (HDRP)

Annotation: The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research Health Disparities Research Program supports studies that provide a better understanding of the basis of health disparities and inequalities; develop and test tailored/targeted interventions for underserved populations; and explore approaches to the dissemination and implementation of effective findings to assure rapid translation into practice, policy, and action in communities.
