Courage Center

Annotation: Courage Center is a nonprofit organization providing rehabilitation and independent living services for children and adults with physical disabilities and speech, hearing, and vision impairments. Programs are offered for persons from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa, while other programs have a national referral base, including ham radio and a transitional living program, Courage Residence. Services are offered in the following broad areas: Medical Rehabilitation and Education, including clinic locations in Golden Valley, Stillwater, Burnsville and Forest Lake, MN; Leisure and Recreation including camping at two accessible camps in Minnesota, and a wide variety of adapted sports and recreation programs; Work and Learning; and, Mental Health and Family Support. Courage Center hosts a list serve and sponsors conferences, training seminars, and workshops. A Class Catalog is also available with alternative formats available upon request.

National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.)

Annotation: The National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) is a national advocacy group working to improve opportunities for Americans with every kind of disability. Particular areas of focus include employment, technology, housing, religious participation, emergency preparedness, and access to healthcare and other services. Local governments are encouraged to join N.O.D.'s Community Partnership Program to engage with citizens with disabilities to maximize their potential to participate and contribute to their communities. N.O.D. provides resources and links on its website.

North Carolina State University, Center for Universal Design

Annotation: The Center for Universal Design (formerly the Center for Accessible Housing) is a national resource center on accessible and universal design in housing, buildings, and products. The Center conducts research on ways to improve accessible housing, develops new designs for homes and products, and trains people in providing accessible housing and universal design. The Center also offers a fee-based technical design service and Information and Referral Service on accessible housing and universal design. Publications include a newsletter and a catalog. The Center also sponsors training seminars and workshops.

Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Workplace Supports (RRTC)

Annotation: The purpose of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Workplace Supports (RRTC) is to identify factors that enhance or inhibit businesses from employing people with disabilities. The researchprogram is based on a close collaborative relationship with business organizations and is designed to study: return to work strategies for persons who become disabled while employed; key components of effective disability management programs; financial tax credits to encourage hiring, retention, and advancement; the impact of work support interventions on employment and advancement; employer perceptions of obstacles to hiring and retaining; and the significance of structural changes in the American economy on people with disabilities. RRTC provides organized and cost effective designs for training that offers diversity and flexibility to its customers, including university courses; self-paced modules;teleconferences ; newsletter ; online courses; fast facts on workplace supports; seminars/workshops; state-of-the-science conference; regional conferences. RRTC offers inquiry responses, publications, reference information, searchable databases, training seminars, and workshops. An e-mail newsletter is available to anyone interested in employment for people with disabilities.

U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy ( )

Annotation: The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, formerly, the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, promotes job opportunities for people with disabilities. The office responds to inquiries, produces publications, conducts public awareness campaigns, and provides technical assistance on disability employment issues.
