American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)

Annotation: Founded in 1932, the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) works to advance the scientific study and medical practice of diseases of the gastrointestinal (digestive) tract. The college sponsors annual scientific meetings, provides regional postgraduate training courses, awards research grants, advocates on behalf of gastroenterologists and their patients, and disseminates scientific information on digestive health and GI disorders. Publications include the Journal of Gastroenterology. Patient materials are posted on ACG's Web site.

American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)

Annotation: The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) is a society of physicians, surgeons, scientists, and other individuals within the healthcare community who have a demonstrated a continued interest in the functions and disorders of the digestive system. As a professional association, AGA serves as an advocate for its members and their patients; supports members’ practices and scientific needs; and promote the discovery, dissemination, and application of new knowledge leading to the prevention, treatment and cure of digestive diseases. AGA offers training and career development opportunities, publishes periodicals, and provides member resources such as patient education materials and an online supply store.

Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF)

Annotation: The Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) is a nonprofit patient education, support, and research organization devoted to increasing awareness and understanding of Celiac Disease/Dermatitis Herprtiformis (CD/DH). In addition to offering services designed to educate, assist, and support affected individuals and their families, CDF works with the health care community to create more awareness of CD. Services to consumers include referrals, publications, and reference information. CDF publishes a newsletter and sponsors conferences and training seminars.

Celiac Sprue Association/United States of America (CSA/USA)

Annotation: The Celiac Sprue Association/United States of America (CSA/USA) provides information and referral services for people with celiac sprue (gluten-sensitive enteropathy and dermatitis herpetiformis) and for parents of children with celiac disease. Publications include a quarterly newsletter, Lifeline, a handbook and a series of brochures on gluten-free commercial foods, gluten-free diet, and related topics. The association, which also sponsors conferences and workshops, has six U.S. regions, 91 chapters, and over 50 active resource units.

Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA)

Annotation: The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) works to establish a coordinated national research and education program to conquer Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Publications include Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Foundation Focus, Treating TBD, The New People...Not Patients, Managing Your Child's Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, and various educational brochures. Some materials are available in Spanish. CCFA also sponsors workshops and training seminars.

International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD)

Annotation: The International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, is a registered nonprofit education and research organization founded in 1991. IFFGD addresses the issues surrounding life with gastrointestinal (GI) functional and motility disorders and increases the awareness about these disorders among the general public, researchers, regulators, and the clinical care community. It was formerly named the International Foundation for Bowel Dysfunction.

National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC)

Annotation: The National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC) is an information and referral service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, one of the National Institutes of Health. A central information resource on the prevention and management of digestive diseases, the clearinghouse responds to written inquiries, develops and distributes publications about digestive diseases, and provides referrals to digestive disease organizations, including support groups. The NDDIC maintains a database of patient and professional educational materials from which literature searches are generated. The clearinghouse will provide bulk orders of publications at a minimal cost to health and information professionals planning patient health education programs. Publications include a catalog and newsletter. Some materials are available in Spanish.
