ADEAGies Foundation

Annotation: The ADEAGies Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American Dental Education Association. The foundation enhances the oral health of the public through programs that support dental education, research, leadership, and recognition.

American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmfAR)

Annotation: The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), founded in 1985, is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting AIDS research, AIDS prevention and treatment education initiatives, and advocacy for sound AIDS-related public policy. The public policy program is currently engaged in efforts to secure necessary increases in funding for HIV/AIDS research, including vaccine and microbicide research; implement a comprehensive national prevention strategy, including repeal of the current ban on federal funding for syringe exchange programs; expand access to care and treatment; and protect the civil rights of all people affected by HIV/AIDS. amfAR has awarded grants to research teams worldwide. It is funded by voluntary contributions from individuals, foundation, and corporations. The foundation publishes the twice-yearly amfAR Global Link, a comprehensive source of information on HIV/AIDS treatments and clinical trials, available in paperback and in an online interactive database format at amfAR's Web site. amfAR also sponsors conferences, seminars, and "think tanks." Materials are available in Spanish.

AUA Foundation (AAU Foundation)

Annotation: The AUA Foundation is a partnership of physicians, researchers, health-care professionals, patients, caregivers, families and the public established to support and promote research, patient/public education and advocacy. Originally established in 1987 as the American Foundation for Urologic Disease (AFUD), the organization entered a new era of service in 2005 when it consolidated its programs with the American Urological Association . Information for researchers, health professionals, and patients is available via the Web site.

California Dental Association Foundation

Annotation: The California Dental Association Foundation seeks to improve the health of Californians by linking dentistry with community needs. The foundation reaches underserved populations through programs, grants, scholarships, and training. Educational programs provide participating dentists with skills to treat a variety of clients and opportunities to address the needs of critical segments of the population who have little or no access to oral health care. These programs include the Dental Professionals Against Violence, Perinatal Oral Health, First Smiles Education and Training Program, and the Pediatric Oral Health Access Program.

California Endowment

Annotation: The California Endowment is a private, statewide health foundation whose mission is to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians. Guiding the endowment's work is a multicultural approach to health, which is defined not only by race and ethnicity, but financial status, cultural beliefs, gender, age, sexual orientation, geographic location, immigration status, and physical or mental abilities. This approach seeks to mobilize the talents, cultures and assets of California's diverse populations to improve the quality of our health systems and to promote health at the level of communities. A wide variety of publications covering topics such as access to care, mental health, cultural competence, and disparities in health can be downloaded in pdf format from the endowment's Web site.

CareQuest Institute for Oral Health

Annotation: The CareQuest Institute for Oral Health focuses on transforming the U.S. health care system to enable better health through oral health by prioritizing person-centered care. It provides grantmaking, research, and care improvement initiatives, and serves as a leading voice in these areas of focus: (1) establish a single, national oral health measurement system, (2) pursue person-centered models of care through value-based transformation, and (3) advocate for public adult dental benefit to expand access.

Casey Family Programs

Annotation: Casey Family Programs is a national foundation that provides direct services and works to promote advances in child welfare practice and policy and collaborate with foster, kinship, and adoptive parents to provide safe, loving homes for youth. The foundation also collaborates with counties, states, and native tribes to improve services and outcomes for the more than 500,000 young people in out-of-home care across the United States. Casey Family Programs conducts studies and gathers information; offers access to innovative projects and online publications; organizes and participates in conferences, and provides life-skills tools and opportunities for young people at risk. CDC Foundation

Annotation: Established by Congress as an independent, nonprofit organization, the CDC Foundation connects the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with private-sector organizations and individuals to build public health programs that make the world healthier and safer. The CDC Foundation helps CDC pursue innovative ideas that need support from outside partners. The support needed is most often funding, but also can include expertise, information, leadership or connections to specific groups of people. CDC Foundation partnerships help CDC launch new programs, expand existing programs that show promise, or establish a proof of concept through a pilot project before scaling it up. In each partnership, outside support gives CDC experts the flexibility to quickly and effectively connect with the right partners, information and technology needed to address a priority public health challenge.

Charles Stewart Mott Foundation

Annotation: The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation works to improve the quality of life for individuals and their communities by funding demonstration programs that offer unique approaches to community problems. Current activities focus on four major program areas: the environment, civil society, the local community (in the Flint, Michigan area), and pathways out of poverty. The foundation publishes an annual report and other publications periodically. Services to consumers include inquiry responses and publications.

Coalition of Community Foundations for Youth, Community Foundations Leading Change (CFleads)

Annotation: The Coalition of Community Foundations for Youth is a national network formed to promote the physical, intellectual, and social development of children and their families. The coalition joins with other organizations of common or compatible purpose to eliminate the racial, cultural, and economic barriers which impair family well-being. It hopes to change and encourage individual and collective reform efforts involving public policy research and dissemination, education, advocacy, community organizing, marketing and media campaigns, and constituency-designed models of integrated service delivery.

Commonwealth Fund (CMWF)

Annotation: The Commonwealth Fund is a private foundation that supports independent research on health and social issues and makes grants to improve health care practice and policy. Its two national program areas are improving health insurance coverage and access to care and improving the quality of health care services. The fund is dedicated to helping people become more informed about their health care and improving care for vulnerable populations. Focus areas include child health and development, underserved populations (including the delivery of culturally competence services), and patient-centered care. T he fund sponsors a national initiative, Healthy Steps for Young Children, focused on the first three years of life. This program supports a close relationship between health professionals and parents addressing the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of very young children.

Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (CHEF)

Annotation: The Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (CHEF) promotes health and quality of life by providing leadership, support, and resources for health education in schools and communities. The foundation encourages the initiation, development, maintenance, and expansion of health education in schools and communities; provides leadership to improve the quality, scope, and availability of health education programs and materials; develops resources to enhance the provision of quality comprehensive health education; fosters professional development and recognizes leadership in the field of health education; supports and participates in associations and coalitions that bring together individuals and organizations committed to health education; and promotes community recognition and support for health education. CHEF sponsors training seminars and workshops, publishes a newsletter, and provides a list of online resources related to coordinated school health programs.

Council on Foundations (COF)

Annotation: The Council on Foundations (COF) is a nonprofit membership association of grantmaking foundations and corporations. The Council's mission is to promote responsible and effective philanthropy. The Council's goals are to develop and support public policy and create a public environment that promotes philanthropy; promote the growth of responsible and effective philanthropy; and develop communications, interactions and collaborations that serve the field, inform the public and support inclusiveness. COF provides referrals; publishes a newsletter, journal, and a catalog; and sponsors conferences, training seminars, and workshops.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF)

Annotation: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was established to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis (CF) and improve the quality of life for those with the disease. The CF Foundation supports a mail-order pharmacy, accredits specialized CF care centers throughout the country, and sponsors conferences. Publications include fact sheets, brochures and "Commitment," a newsletter published regularly. In addition, the CF Foundation offers videos and some Spanish materials .

Dental Trade Alliance Foundation (DTAF)

Annotation: The Dental Trade Alliance Foundation (DTAF) was established in 2000 as the philanthropic arm of the Dental Trade Alliance. The foundation funds early stage innovative programs designed to increase the effectiveness of the oral health care system by encouraging changes in overall health behavior, improving access for underserved populations, and enhancing the efficiency of the system. The foundation's Dental ReSERVE provides donated equipment and supplies to vetted, non-proift organizations that provide free dental care to those in need.

Foundation Center

Annotation: The Foundation Center is a national service organization providing information on grants, loans, and funding from foundation programs available to nonprofit organizations. The Center has offices in Atlanta, San Francisco, Washington, and Cleveland. Through collections at the five offices and a network of over 200 cooperating libraries throughout the United States, grantseekers have free access to core center publications, plus a wide range of books, periodicals, and research documents relating to foundations and philanthropy. Publications include many guides on available grants, such as Guide to Funding for Children, Youth, and Families and Guide to Funding and Health. The Center also makes information available electronically through FC Search: The Foundation Center's Database on CD-ROM, and custom searching and online services. The Center also hosts various seminars and events. A catalog is available upon request.

Foundation for Child Development (FCD)

Annotation: The Foundation for Child Development's grantmaking activities focus on efforts to understand and improve the life conditions of children and their families. FCD has a special interest in children in working families, particularly in those families that are struggling to meet their children's basic human needs. Three cross-cutting themes guide FCD's work: linking research on children and families to formation of relevant programs and policies; identifying fresh approaches to crafting sound social strategies for children and families; and nurturing new generations of leaders in child development research and policy. Foundation publications include working papers and information updates.
