Annotation: The U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) is charged with primary responsibility for promoting and improving the health of the nation's mothers and children. The Bureau provides national leadership and partners with states, communities, public/private stakeholders, and families to strengthen the maternal and child infrastructure and improve MCH health outcomes. As part of the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, MCHB administers Title V of the Social Security Act. The Bureau oversees the Division of Healthy Start and Perinatal Services, the Division of Home visiting and Early Childhood Systems, the Division of Maternal and Child Health Workforce Development, the Division of Services for Children with Special Health Needs, the Division of State and Community Health, the Division of Child, Adolescent, and Family Health, the Office of Epidemiology and Research, and the Office of Policy and Planning. Services to consumers include referrals, publications, and reference information. MCHB also provides maternal mental health crisis hotline.
