American Dental Association (ADA)

Annotation: The American Dental Association (ADA) is committed to the public’s oral health and to ethics, science, and professional advancement. Initiatives include those related to advocacy, education, research, and the development of standards. ADA’s journal, Journal of the American Dental Association and website contain information on continuing education offerings and volunteer opportunities. The public resources section of the website provides information for families.

Dental Lifeline Network

Annotation: The Dental Lifeline Network (formerly the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped), an affiliate of the American Dental Association, works to arrange comprehensive oral health care for individuals with special needs through a national network of direct service programs involving volunteer dentists and laboratories. Programs include Donated Dental Services, Bridge/Campaign of Concern, and HouseCalls. The network publishes Dental Lifeline Network News and collaborates with dental suppliers to offer DentaCheques, a revenue-generating coupon book for dentists.

National Center for Dental Hygiene Research & Practice (NCDHRP)

Annotation: The National Center for Dental Hygiene Research and Practice (NCDHRP) promotes the health of the public by fostering the development, implementation, and dissemination of oral health research; establishing an infrastructure to support dental hygiene research; and strengthening the scientific foundation for the discipline of dental hygiene. Activities include grant training, research projects, and educational programs. The website contains research agendas, databases, funding sources, training, practice guidelines, sources of information on oral diseases and conditions, news, position papers, and programs. The DHNet Researcher's Network explores commonalities in research interests, offers opportunities to learn about new and ongoing research programs, and promotes collaboration to systematically and purposefully advance dental hygiene practice and education through research.
