Alabama Child Death Review System

Annotation: The Alabama Child Death Review System was created on September 11, 1997 in order to review, evaluate, and prevent cases of unexpected and unexplained child death. ACDRS's mission is to understand how and why children die in Alabama, in order to prevent other child deaths. ACDRS, which includes both state and local child death review teams, focuses on prevention through statistical analysis, education and advocacy efforts, and local community involvement.

Alabama Department of Public Health, Oral Health Office

Annotation: The Alabama Department of Public Health Oral Health Branch provides oral health education programs and materials, community water fluoridation, and a dental screening program. It also provides oral health data and information on finding a dentist.

Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences (LHL)

Annotation: The Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences is a large biomedical library in Alabama and one of the leading such libraries in the South. It serves as a Resource Library in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine for the Southeast/Atlantic region. It provides referrals and reference information. Publishes a newsletter.

Sickle Cell Foundation of Greater Montgomery

Annotation: The Sickle Cell Foundation of Greater Montgomery is a nonprofit community service organization. Services offered by the Foundation include sickle cell education, testing, counseling, supportive services and referral services. The Foundation was founded in January of 1982. The Foundation serves nine counties in central and southern Alabama. These counties include Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, Butler, Lowndes, Chambers, Tallapoosa, Crenshaw, and Coffee counties. The main objectives of the Foundation are to give accurate information about sickle cell disease and related hemoglobinopathies, to provide testing and diagnostic services to interested persons, to counsel individuals with positive test results so they can make informed decisions about their lives and to provide supportive services for clients and their family members.

Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG)

Annotation: The Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG) is a network of providers of clinical genetic services, public health departments, consumers, and related laboratory services working together with affected individuals and their families. SERGG collects and disseminates information about genetic services, newborn screening programs, and other public health services related to genetics in the region, and supports research to promote better genetic services. The Group works to enhance the quality of genetic services in the Southeastern Region which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands and to provide a forum for exchange of information among professionals who provide genetic services and the consumers of these services in the southeastern region of the United States.
