Annotation: Funded by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Farmworker Health Services seeks to empower migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families to take ownership of their lives through its provision of health care, its outreach social services, and its promotion of preventive health care. The project places health professionals and allied health personnel at over 30 Migrant and Community Health Centers (M/CHC's) along the east coast during times of peak agricultural activity. It also strives to raise the consciousness of business, health care, social service, educational, and religious entities about the plight of the farm workers and to solicit their support. Offers referrals to consumers and sponsors outreach seminars. Materials are available in Spanish and Creole.

Annotation: HealthConnect One strives to advance equitable, community-based, peer-to-peer support for pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and early parenting in communities that have been historically marginalized and inadequately served. The organization trains community health workers (CHWs), including doulas and breastfeeding peer counselors; mobilizes diverse stakeholders to develop policies and programs that improve MCH; assists organizations in developing programs that use peer support; and incorporates trained CHWs into paid positions in outreach, health education, and community health advocacy. Annotation: The National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) is committed to enhancing the quality of life and empowering people of African ancestry through advocacy, human services delivery, and research. The association appoints task forces to study topics such as family preservation, health and wellness, social justice and civil liberty; family preservation; health wellness; and youth development. NABSW publishes position papers exploring the preservation of families; domestic violence; welfare reform; and kinship care. The association also sponsors an annual conference.

Annotation: The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is a professional organization of more than 155,000 social workers. The association produces the Social Work Abstracts Database, available on CD-Rom and through Silverplatter. Publications include the bimonthly journal Social Work, the quarterly journal Health and Social Work, other journals, directories, and guides, a monthly newspaper, NASW News., and a catalog. The National Social Work Library provides general information and research services to members. In addition, NASW sponsors continuing education opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and training seminars.

Annotation: The National Child Welfare Workforce Institute supports the workforce in public, private, and tribal child welfare systems, focusing on leadership as a way to strengthen the recruitment, selection, and retention of high quality staff, including professionally prepared social workers who assist abused and neglected children. The institute is a partnership between the University of Albany and the universities of Denver, Fordham, Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan, North Carolina, and Southern Maine, and the National Indian Child Welfare Association. The institute is a participant in the Children's Bureau Training and Technical Assistance Network (TTA).
