Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

Annotation: The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) works to ensure and enhance the quality of social work education for a professional practice that promotes individual, family and community well-being, and social and economic justice. CSWE pursues this mission by setting and maintaining national accreditation standards for baccalaureate and master's degree programs in social work, by promoting faculty development, and by advocating for social work education and research. The Council sponsors an annual conference and publishes a member newsletter, peer-reviewed journals, books, a catalog, and other educational and research materials.

Farmworker Health Services, Inc. (FHSI)

Annotation: Funded by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Farmworker Health Services seeks to empower migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families to take ownership of their lives through its provision of health care, its outreach social services, and its promotion of preventive health care. The project places health professionals and allied health personnel at over 30 Migrant and Community Health Centers (M/CHC's) along the east coast during times of peak agricultural activity. It also strives to raise the consciousness of business, health care, social service, educational, and religious entities about the plight of the farm workers and to solicit their support. Offers referrals to consumers and sponsors outreach seminars. Materials are available in Spanish and Creole.

HealthConnect One

Annotation: HealthConnect One strives to advance equitable, community-based, peer-to-peer support for pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and early parenting in communities that have been historically marginalized and inadequately served. The organization trains community health workers (CHWs), including doulas and breastfeeding peer counselors; mobilizes diverse stakeholders to develop policies and programs that improve MCH; assists organizations in developing programs that use peer support; and incorporates trained CHWs into paid positions in outreach, health education, and community health advocacy. The website provides information on advocacy; programs and training; news, events and resources; and ways to get involved.

National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW)

Annotation: The National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) is committed to enhancing the quality of life and empowering people of African ancestry through advocacy, human services delivery, and research. The association appoints task forces to study topics such as family preservation, health and wellness, social justice and civil liberty; family preservation; health wellness; and youth development. NABSW publishes position papers exploring the preservation of families; domestic violence; welfare reform; and kinship care. The association also sponsors an annual conference.

National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

Annotation: The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is a professional organization of more than 155,000 social workers. The association produces the Social Work Abstracts Database, available on CD-Rom and through Silverplatter. Publications include the bimonthly journal Social Work, the quarterly journal Health and Social Work, other journals, directories, and guides, a monthly newspaper, NASW News., and a catalog. The National Social Work Library provides general information and research services to members. In addition, NASW sponsors continuing education opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and training seminars.

National Child Welfare Workforce Institute

Annotation: The National Child Welfare Workforce Institute supports the workforce in public, private, and tribal child welfare systems, focusing on leadership as a way to strengthen the recruitment, selection, and retention of high quality staff, including professionally prepared social workers who assist abused and neglected children. The institute is a partnership between the University of Albany and the universities of Denver, Fordham, Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan, North Carolina, and Southern Maine, and the National Indian Child Welfare Association. The institute is a participant in the Children's Bureau Training and Technical Assistance Network (TTA).

School Social Work Association of America

Annotation: The School Social Work Association of America, founded in 1994, empowers school social workers and promotes the profession to enhance the social-emotional growth and academic outcomes of all students. The website provides information on membership, professional development, advocacy and legislation, news and media, and information for parents and educators. Resources on crisis response and intervention and other topics, resolution statements, and a newsletter are included.

University of Minnesota School of Social Work, Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW)

Annotation: The Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work brings the University of Minnesota together with county and state social services in a public-private partnership dedicated to improving the lives of high-risk families and children. CASCW sponsors workshops, forums, and conferences on issues in child welfare and supports research on child welfare topics. CASCW provides information to child welfare practitioners, educators, and policy makers; publications produced include a newsletter. The Center also provides a stipend to students admitted to the School of Social Work's MSW or PhD programs who are committed to post-graduate work in county or state child welfare services.

University of Tennessee College of Social Work, Office of Social Work Research and Public Service (SWORPS)

Annotation: The Office of Social Work Research and Public Service (SWORPS) works to improve the quality of social work practice in Tennessee, the southeast region, and the nation. Services include continuing education, multistate survey research capabilities, technical assistance, and training resources for the social work community. Training and materials are available in the areas of foster care, adoption, child protective services, adult protective services, permanency planning, independent living, and family (economic) assistance. Publications include training manuals, books, grant and contract proposals, newsletters, and conference, workshop, and symposium materials. A publications list is available.
