Annotation: This report presents results from the 2018–2019 California Third Grade Smile Survey. The report provides background on tooth decay in children in California and presents key findings related to tooth decay experience, untreated decay, and dental sealant prevalence; disparities in tooth decay and untreated tooth decay, and dental sealant prevalence by race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status; and regional variations in children's oral health across the state. Strategies for improving children's health as delineated in California's 2018–2028 oral health plan are discussed, along with methodology and limitations. Definitions of terms are included.

The report covers the following topics: evaluation; clinical reach and dental referrals; participating school personnel perceptions of SEAL!ND; and reach of the related program, Ronald McDonald Care Mobile in partnership with Bridging the Dental Gap, which offers access to oral health care at additional schools in the state.

Annotation: This brief presents information on tooth decay prevalence in the primary and permanent teeth of children in third grade in Illinois. Illinois data are compared to data on children of similar ages within the U.S. population screened between 2015 and 2016 as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The brief also describes dental sealant prevalence and presents body mass index data and data about beverage consumption.

Annotation: This training about standardizing the process of selecting teeth for dental sealant placement is geared toward oral health professionals. It comprises a PowerPoint presentation and pre- and post-tests. The training reviews evidence-based guidance for sealant use, addresses questions, and presents findings and recommendations. Examples of sound, cavitated, and noncavitated lesions on tooth surfaces and discussions about whether to select teeth for sealants are included.

Annotation: This data brief focuses on the oral health of American Indian and Alaska Native children ages 1–5. The brief presents information on the prevalence of early childhood caries, untreated tooth decay, and dental sealants in the primary teeth of this population in 2018–2019 and assesses trends since the 2010 survey was conducted. The results of the 2018–2019 survey are presented as five key findings. For each finding, statistical data are included. Implications of the results are also discussed.

The report introduces the issues and presents a map of Idaho public school districts and key findings. Topics include active tooth decay, tooth decay experience, restorative dental service needs, and dental service history. For each topic, information is provided in text, tables, and figures. Sample design, data collection, and data limitations are also discussed.
