Annotation: This book develops conceptual models for the structure and function of prototype professional standards review organizations (PSRO) as described in PL 92-6203 known as the Bennett Amendments to the Social Security Act passed in 1972. Part one describes the content of peer review, the application of peer review to PSRO, specific peer review programs, PSRO districting considerations, PSRO, PSRO state councils, and the national program. Part two is a collection of papers discussing care assessment, cost control methods in health care delivery, the outcome of appraisal of medical care, certification of need for and volumetric appraisal, data processing systems for medical care appraisal, and conclusions with suggestions and guidelines required to implement PSRO.
