The manual provides an overview of the technologies and how they are used, examines traditional religious perspectives on reproduction and fertility, and outlines a model of pastoral care and counseling to help religious leaders effectively minister to individuals and communities. The manual also suggests ways that congregations and denominations can support, educate, and engage in the ethical issues surrounding assisted reproductive technologies.

Annotation: This workbook was prepared for attendees of a March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation workshop for clergy. It discusses ways clergy can provide pastoral care for families with an infant with severe problems, for couples in high-risk pregnancy, in premarital counseling, and in performing funerals. It discusses ethical issues in applied human genetics and gives information about local genetic centers and services, support groups, and genetic disorders.
