Annotation: This paper focuses on key findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, a decade-long, ongoing study designed to examine the childhood origins of many health and social problems. The paper describes the study design and discusses the interrelatedness of ACEs. Types of ACEs discussed include abuse, neglect, household dysfunction, and battered mother. The relationship of ACE scores to alcohol consumption, risk factors for HIV and AIDS, smoking and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; depression and suicide attempts; worker performance; and health care costs. Implications are discussed. References are included. Statistical information is presented in figures throughout the paper.The paper includes one appendix: a detailed list of health and social problems shown to have a graded relationship with ACE scores.

The third part provides information on changing behaviors including physical activity, weight control, smoking, nutrients, foods, alcohol, vitamins and minerals, postmenopausal hormones, birth control, and pain relievers. The appendices give information on types of epidemiological studies; being an informed consumer of health information; and a section on tables on weight and nutrition. The book concludes with a glossary, selected readings, and an index.

Annotation: This report discusses identifying the key needs and making recommendations for more effective treatment of pediatric pulmonary disease. It is the result of a conference bringing together the Maternal and Child Health staff, Crippled Children's Program directors and personnel from the Cystic Fibrosis Centers of the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation and pediatric pulmonary centers held in Washington, D.C. April 3-5, 1973. Conference workshops focused on clinical services, program development, training and education, and research and evaluation. The volume ends with a conference attendance list.
